From the few mp3s online this shit is STRAIGHT up
Autechresque (and even better sometimes). Wow. Anyone have
his Necrophonicon album?

cough, cough.

This is good stuff. That miss cthulhu track really does
capture some autechreism, in a compositional sense, not just
sound-wise.

oh wauw, another autechre clone, just what I was waiting

seriously, how many autechre clones are there? i'm
interested to check them out.

i know you think funckarma is one. what else?

well if you look at signed artists there are a few who are
influenced I guess, but I wouldn't call them clones. however
if you look on netlabels, myspace,... you can find plenty.

What ? people just make electronic tunes, the millions of
netlabels and myspacers might have crappy equipment and just
sound kinda blah, or perhaps its the marketing or
warp/rephlex/skam, blh blah blah that helps sell the
artists

ps: autechre are not trendy they are happy to be cloned

offline gl0tch from www.gl0tch.com     on 2006-09-27 11:28 [#01978494]

Comparing Funckarma to Autechre is like saying Vsnares is
just like Aphex. I'm sure for a person who doesnt listen to
this regularly they all sound the same. It seems like it
should be more about the genre itself, rather than the
artist.

Honestly, I agree, I'm sure there are a lot of Amber-era
Autechre clones out on net-labels now. Ok. Too bad they
are 12+ years after the fact.

But as far as Confield-era "clones" go, they are few and far
between. Simple fact is, it's just harder to pull off. I
can think of MANY people who sound like Amber, or were at
least influenced by it, but my lp5/confield-influenced list
is much shorter.

Labels like n5md and some of m3rck would be on the former.
People like Tomoroh Hidari and 3tronik, the second one.

doesn't sound too much like autechre... i mean this in the
sense that I'm not bothered by it...

okay, the beats are kinda ipacial section at points, but it
just sounds like pretty interesting electronica to me!
people are pushing machines to their limits, which is always
nice.

its a big grey area when you talk about which artist sounds
like the other

you have to consider that none of autechres songs sound like
eachother, so hows it possible that another artist comes
close to sounding like them?

each AE album we get is a slap in the face, its never the
same thing twice. so i think imitating them should be
impossible as it appears that they do not even imitate
themselves

so, i dont think anyone else sounds like autechre. because
autechre doesn't sound like autechre. isnt that kinda cool

itd be nearly impossible for someone else to do what
autechre is doing now.

You sound as if you just discovered the internet.
The tracks alright, you can hear bucketloads of artists like
this on live365 or some other internet radio stations
though.

offline gl0tch from www.gl0tch.com     on 2006-09-27 21:10 [#01978738]

Ok. Here's a challenge. Since it looks like so many of you
seem to know
the difference, find me someone else who comes closer than
this. I'm tired of these surface value and dismissive
statements like, "oh there's this netlabel who does this,"
or "nah ah." Totally counterproductive.

Remember, I said Autechre-ESQUE. I didnt say this
could replace any album. Frankly, I do find this track more
enjoyable than some Ae. But whatever, I'm drawing a
distinction here between Amber and Confield-era Autechre. I
can find several Amber influenced artists. That's simple. I
think artists sounding anything similar to post-lp5 Ae are
few.

I remember Autechre said in an interview that the kind of
music they make falls under the name they made for
themselves. So something Autechre'esque would mean that it
sounds like Autechre's self named style of themselves as
autechre sounds. Wait, im lost now...
