"spinning a motherfucker loud" doesn't really mean it's the
best. my favorites are golden leftoves, one foot in the
grave and mellow gold anyway. but then, in my opinion, he
hasn't made a bad album. midnite vultures, mutations, sea
change, stereopathetic soul manure, buck fuck iowa, banjo
story, beck (like the beer), lollipop, fresh meat etc etc. +
all the singles and compilation work... so much goodness,
golly!

see. I wasn't that into his earlier works. I guess that
makes me a (Poser)

I have always hated Beck, with a couple of one-track
exceptions that I'm not sure of the name of. The local
radio stations have been playing 'Nausea' off this album
ad-nauseum (pun very much intended) and acting like it is
the greatest thing ever, but I can't tell you the
claustrophobic sense of sonic mediocrity this track gives
me. It's so lackluster that I actually started
re-evaluating my own standards of judging music.. wondering
if maybe I was listening incorrectly simply because I
couldn't even imagine how another homosapien could glean
sincere pleasure out of such a miserably uninteresting,
flat, emotionally void song.

I'm not trying to be a little bitch here.. I'd be very
sincerely interested in hearing why people like Beck..
because I respect the opinions of most people on this
messageboard and I'm truly wondering if I'm missing
something.

Nausea is a very bad track. there are much better ones on
the new album.

does using more edjucated linguistics while typing on an
online discussion forum ranting about your dislike for Beck
make you feel like you have serious Gajonga Jongaz? you've
no one to impress with it. no offense, it just seems bull.

before the album came out, i downloaded a live version of
nuasea which was more rockier and distorted and such.
when i heard the album version with the acousitc guitars and
such, the change was enough for me to like it.
that said, im not going on about its the greatest thing
ever. its not. its just good beck music.

Nausea is alright but not really a standout at all... He
made at least 50 tracks that are better, that's for sure.

You know, you're actually right. I was being a twat last
night. I apologize.

not really a twat. cause everybody does it from time to
time.

this album is terrible

uviol, his other albums have a lot of nice ideas and
melodies, that at least pull me in.
songs like nausea just make me want to vomit, i dont like a
single track i think

mutations is one of the darker albums in my collection, i
never realised how depressed that album is
...........................until one day : /

mutations is great but it's often the "pussy beck lover"
album along with sea change.

the information definitely wore off.
some nice moments, but yeah, worn off.

Marie over at beck.com

I think his track "loser" was a true moment of musical
genius. Everything else I have heard from him has been paint
by numbers music. Not offensive to the ear, but nothing that
will make you stop what you are doing and listen with
amazement.

which are the three best beck albums?

mellow gold, one foot in the grave and ... well, the third
one usually changes a lot for me. there's too much goodness
to pick. these days i favor midnite vultures though, because
it brings back beck's weirdo style and just runs with it
fully.

yeah, it's one of his best and often one of my "third"
faves.

can't choose three; my four favourites are Mellow Gold,
Odelay, Midnite Vultures and Mutations.

theres pretty good stuff on all of them other than Midnight
Vultures which is 100% terrible.

just picked up Odelay Deluxe Edition last night which is
great cause i've never actually owned (but have always
loved) Richard's Hairpiece.
