Obsession

An interesting documentary. Note: It states clearly that
this film is NOT about the MAJORITY of Muslims, who are
PEACEFUL. I do not agree with all of its views, but it still
contains some very, very worrying footage.

pretty much as if muslims would have filmed a documentary on
some western army and say "most christians are peaceful and
this is not a film about them". the only difference is that
one side does it because of religious beliefs and the other
because they're told so.

oh FFS. that woman is saying they give kids grenades in
palestine and the kids she is talking to are all disgusted,
and at the end she is shouting "this is war! are you part of
it or not?"

christian fundamentalism = islamic fundamentalism

i know. regardless of religion, its literalist religion that
is dangerous, and the sort of people who believe in it

it's the religion and the people... i mean, who's
to say that the literalist isn't more correct than the one
who picks and chooses which teachings to follow?

it is an entirely fundamentally flawed system.

Religion is the root cause of the majority of the problems
in this world!

I don't like how they're kneeling down to putin and
categorizing the chechen rebels as islamic
fundamentalists/jihadists

Christian fundamentalism isn't really a religion, its a
culture. Christianity is just a basis for these people to
reason their values into their culture.

Well said. These people would act similar reguardless of
what society they are born into. Some just so happen to he
born into muslim society, some to christian.

Why does a discussion on any fanatical religious problem
always shift very quickly in focus towards Christianity? I'm
in no way saying that Christian fundimentalism isn't a
problem-it is-but I've noticed in a number of forums that
any topic on extremist muslims, or any other problematic
religious issue, always switches straight towards an attack
on right-wing Christianity and related issues. Maybe it's
because that's shoved in our faces more often...

Religion is fucking stupid. Even nice "spiritual" moderate
religion. It's all bollocks, why do people have to keep
making this point?

Because religion itself isn't stupid.

People will talk about what they know. Chances are more
people know christian fundamentalists that scare them than
they do muslim fundamentalists that scare them.

christian fundamentalism is shoved in our faces more than
islamic fundamentalism?

get real.

Simple people usually jump to the first extreme that they
see accomodates their opinion. Be it muslim, christian, or
atheist.

Of course it's stupid, you can't have it both ways.
"Oh well some religious people are nice and reasonable and
don't mind where I put my winky, and don't like killing
other people." Big deal, the only reason something like
modern liberal christianity is tolerable is because it's so
wishy-washy. It's a great thing that religion is dying in
the West. (Outside of the American bible belt, of course.)
and every time I hear about falling church attendence in the
UK I feel very happy.

Religion is dying in the bible belt.

Whether or not you are religious, you have to admit that it
has positive effects on individuals more than negative
effects. For that, you can't really blame anyone (though it
may have negative effects on society).

i think the worrying thing about islam is the doctrine it is
founded on; a doctrine that openly tells its follows to kill
disbelievers and to beat women.

Hmmm. Marshall Mcluhan was a devout christian. He's one of
the strongest minds I can think of that insofar as the study
of rhetoric and its effects on our culture is concerned.
Religion isn't stupid. When its not taken to an extreme, it
can focus people into a more positive and productive
direction. Its not the religion that causes problems. Its
religion in the hands of people who are poorly wired that
causes problems.
