you know... books... with words instead of pictures, printed
on paper? not porn.

what authors do you like if you have read a book?

I like reading... but I'm not into the "deep, intellectual"
books... I want a good, interesting story when I read...
Stephen King is always good, and right now I'm into the
Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan... in the middle of
book six now...

I NEVER read novels. Only one I've ever read is Bram
Stoker's Dracula. I just can't seem to sit down and devote
time to long novels. I like coffee table books, with lots of
pictures and small articles and captions, but I don't have
the time to sit down with a huge story. I read any magazine
I can get my hands on, though.

yeah, I used to be like that... but if you give it a shot,
and find a REALLY good book, you'll be hooked... there is
nothing like a really good book... it's way better then any
movie you'll watch...

Love books, though I don't get much time to read them
currently. I usally read before I go to sleep but lately
I've been to tired.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is amazing. About a girl who
almost never speaks to anyone. She used to have a group of
friends and everything but over the school holidays
something happened to her and now everyone hates her. I
highly recommend it. And anyone who has ever been made fun
of or been teased at school will find a higher emotional
cord with the book.

occident and orient. Find it at all cost!

I remember I went to my grandmothers house one time, so I
needed a book (she doesn't have cable)... I picked out It by
Stephen King, and away we went... I started reading it, and
my goodness I couldn't put it down... the book is like 1100
pages or something, and I must've read it in like 9 or 10
days... The Wheel of Time series is already 8 or 9 books,
and is still not finished, and each book is upwards of
around 900 pages long... but yet, it's not boring at all...

and not yet have i seen a movie derrived from a book that
was better then the book itself.

I´m now reading Frank Herbert "Dune", and I read graphic
novels as well (these are similar to comics but better).

I just haven't got the time or the patience to read books! I
know that you get more out of a book in terms of story
detail etc.etc...but I find it more satisfying to watch a
film (the way a director means you to see it..), and get it
over with in 2 hours..

I buy lots of hardback coffee table books of film/sci-fi/art
- but they have lots of pictures in them! And I do 'look' at
them quite often, but I've never read any of them!

I just think I could be doing so many other things as
opposed to sat there just reading!

Hey Vader! I like Frank Herbert's Dune. It's my favourite
book. Have you read the new ones by his son?

Depends if you´re buying the originals in English or some
translation I cant find neither Portuguese nor English ones
:-( I will try to order on the net hopefuly :-) the ones I
have were bought in London by a friend of mine.

I had no problems finding the german translation. I don't
know how hard it is to get the original. in my opinion it's
a little bit difficult to enjoy a book in its original
language if it is not your mother tongue.

i've been reading 'the restaurant at the end of the
universe' by douglas adams...
well..its actually at the library now...i had to return
it...but when i get the chance im going to take it back out
and finish it...

I agree with you its harder to enjoy, I read those with a
good dictionary it helps, its harder but this way the
reading wont suffer I think some parts are just lost with
translations the best would be to read both version the
original and the translated :-)

if you like well written science fiction with an edge, try
iain m. banks. his books are incredible.

i'm reading wuthering heights at the moment, though. it's
not too bad.

yeah i read loads, i'm reading Peter F Hamiltons "Nights
Dawn" trilogy, which is excelent so far. Though the books
are extremely long, book 1 is the shortest at 1225 pages!

Anyway some of my faves are Dune, Enders Game, His Dark
Materials Trilogy and anything by Neil Gaiman.

Oh and if you like fantasy you "have" to read the "a song of
fire and ice" books by George R R Martin, better than Lord
of the Rings imho. Anyone else reading this series?

I read a lot. I just finished The Corrections by Johnathan
Franzen and Atonement by Ian McEwan, and The Peculiar
Memories of Thomas Penman. Books are second only to music in
my view.
