...and i want to find her a program that's relatively easy
to use but not expensive. i'd just show her my methods but
they're rather archaic and time-consuming.

please don't say fruity loops.

well i don't really use any professional software. i use a
bunch of old pawn shop hardware, a simple drum tracker and a
sound recorder plus cutting and pasting for most of mine.
and nch tone generator, analog-x vocoder and occasionally
granulab. i'm also using audacity so i can start writing
stuff in stereo.

i have a friend who wanted to get started with electronic
music. i just turned him on to reason. i practically never
use it myself, but i think it's a relatively inexpensive way
to get started because you get so many gadgets to fiddle
with for a reason-able price. then if my friend wants to
expand later, it is easily rewired to Live or what have you.
that was my theory anyway. he is now making some tunes and
enjoying doing it so... worked out for him anyway.

Fruityloops is an inexpensive way to learn electronic music,
that allows you a lot of options for creative
experimentation. They just choose the most unfortunate name
for that program.

now that i think of it, fruityloops is probably better for
her skill level. she wrote some stuff in Magix a long time
back, so Fruity shouldn't be too complicated.

If you don't want to use FL studio because it's not "cool"
enough then I suggest you try EnergyXT, it's very good, very
cool and very cheap!

it though she may dig it.

got live for 250 (I think) online.

Let's see; energyXT license USD 55.04
http://www.xt-hq.com/

It's a nice modular program, might be hard for a beginner
though.

"please don't say fruity loops."

that's just stupid . give her the fucking FL4 5 or 6 and see
how fast she'll present you with a track.

ask MothaFucka if you don't believe me.

I would recommend Reason, I got recycle yesterday and it had
something called Reason Adapted free with it which is a
stripped down version of Reason so that might be
appropriate. I cant find anything about buying it or whether
its free or what...

and I got Logic express for £100 with a student
discount.but i think its mac only

that. thanks.

Buzz tracker was a legendary sequencing/tracking tool
for electronic music over the whole internet and for quite a
long time, but I haven't heard of it since 3 years ago I
think.. But still you can find it somewhere on the net, it's
free and comes with a vast amount of synths and modules that
should be enuff for any purpose on musicmaking. I believe
many of electronic musicians still use it.
