Anyone on here do kung fu or any other martial arts?
I'm currently trying out a few styles to see what's best for
me.

hahah :)

you should know better thad, martial arts are learnt
strictly for purposes of self defence only.

sheffieldbleep: one of my housemates has got a good book on
jiu jitsu, with all its forms and such. when i get back up
to leeds i'll have a look to see what it's called.

I don't think that pansy latino dance is a school of kung
fu. google Wong Kiew Kit.

That's what I though at first until I saw some footage of
Royce Gracie (185 pounds) got the better of a 400 pound sumo
champ!
So I've decided to focus on jiu jitsu.

I haven't practiced any kung fu, but I've studied some of
the most elemental shaolin styles (crane, snake, tiger,
panther, dragon etc.) out of pure interest.

I did Dragon style fairly intensely (tuition 3 hours, twice
a week and about half that again in my own time) for just
over 18 months. We covered a very small bit of Snake and
Wing Chun (just a few moves really) too. It's quite sweet,
I've still got the muscle memory for a fair bit of it, I
practice on my own from time to time.

I tried Lau Gar when I moved, but couldn't really get on
with it.

I've been practicing a Swedish type of modern military
combat. It's a mix of different styles. It's called tom-i
bol-len. I've been doing it since my national service.
There's different styles within the style, like älgen,
vandrande pinnen, knivhot and farfars hagelbössa.

I practiced Karate for three years, but quit when we had a
"belt-graduation" the day after my 18th birthday. I choose
booze and sluts instead of training. I planned to start
again while studying, but I've been to lazy I guess. Martial
arts is a fine thing to keep fit and healthy

I did Lau Gar which is an adaptaion of Hung Gar, Lau Gar is
more suited for someone who wants to get into Kick Boxing.
Then I did Boxing, Ju jitsu, Judo, Pancration and random
violent encounters with bullet heads!

If you were to start from scratch with no Martial Arts
experience and want to able to defend yourself in a day to
day situation, I would recomend a combination of Judo and
Boxing. Once you have a good knowledge of your balance and
how to punch/take a punch it really doesn't matter which
path you choose to take from that point. Brazillian Ju Jitsu
or traditional Pancration/Greco Wrestling is good for
someone with experience but not a good place to start.

Agree 100% with this. If the main thing you're looking to
get out of it is to fairly quickly learn to defend yourself,
Judo and Boxing (together) are the way to go.
