this last week has been unusual, since i've been at home with bronchitis, but here we go: got up at noon. had some carrot & coriander soup and bread for brunch had i gone to work, i'd have gone into / i'd have spent the day answering tech support calls and configuring modems. of music today. vlr's new mix has been a favourite. nothing's really made my happy or sad.. i've been at home, spending most of my time in this room, in this seat, for the past 7 days. i'm a bit weirded out by the experience by now. no drink, no drugs, no meds yet. last drink was a spur-of-the-moment nightcap at 2am last night. i'll probably just watch a movie and perhaps the last episode of season 2 of the sopranos. right now i'm gonna log off for a while and read. haven't learned anything of value today, no. :( |

I dedicated the morning to finishing of Hanal's website, which was a nice break from making the usual very boring websites. what music did you listen to today? My son not making a fuss as I brought him home from the nursery ( he will, 9 times out of 10, find something to fuss about in that five minute walk). what made you sad? I was in the supermarket, with a trolley, and I'd just paid and was going down to the car park, and there's like.. a .. what are they called.. not an escalator as it doesn't have steps, just like a mechanical walkway, you know, leading down. And I was just about to push on with my trolley and one of the supermarket chaps, you know, like a kind of maintenance guy, kind of hopped in front of me.. ok, no big deal, but then someone behind us called him back, so he spun round, and jumped back up, off of the walkway thing, nearly lost his balance and did like a theatrical waving of arms thing. I was fairly close behind him as I was going to go down this fucking walkway and it ONLY GOES DOWN, you don't expect someone to suddenly shoot back the wrong way. Anyway I wasn't that near him, but he gave me this fucking filthy look like.. I'd caused him to nearly fall down the thing, and he was really ugly and mean looking. And I thought, "Oh fuck off out of it" and it kind of irritated me more than.. made me sad. been on any drink/drugs/medication? I've had a beer. what will you do with the rest of the day? Lots of questions: 1. Are you looking for a non-slip coating? Or are you looking for "impact protection" from the rubber mats (protecting young head/legs/arms from hitting the stone) 2. If it's non-slip, are you looking for it to last "forever", or do you think you'll strip it back to bare stone when the kids grow up a bit? 3. Do you want to coat the stairs with a pigmented finish (like a traditional paint), or would you prefer a clear coating that keeps some of the appearance of the underlying stone? It's a difficult situation, because any coating that is durable enough to last any length of time is going to be near impossible to remove without mechanically abraiding the steps, and anything that is easy to remove won't last very long. From a practical, rather than aesthetic, point of view, textured rubber (or polyurethane, without the "rubber" smell) matting is probably your best bet. Long lasting, easy to remove (depending on how you fix it), non-slip and impact resistant. If you want a coating, then I would suggest a non-slip one pack clear epoxy system. You may need to etch or abrade the surface to get good adhesion, and this type of thing is best sourced and applied by a professional flooring contractor. Hope this helps. |
