I just moved into my dorm, and am bored as all hell, so I
was browsing the internet and I found this review of
Aleamapper by Richard Devine. Since I dont really have any
friends to share my anger, I decided to throw it into the
trash bin for ideas, aka the internet.

Its here. I usually don't read reviews, but, even
surpassing pitchfork's shit, this is the worst review I have
ever read.

Well, considering what they're reviewing...

Aw come on, I dont really care that they gave it 2 stars,
but the argument "It doesn't sound like it came from Miami,
so I don't like it" is the most insulting thing I have read
anyone say about an artist.

Ok, "read anyone write".

jesus that's awful.

superfluous comma in the first sentence, too.

Oh shit, I thought you were talking about me.

But that would have been true as well. : /

i guess the Florida angle is a little weak, but I pretty
much dislike Richard Devine for all the same reasons. his
music is just too cold and sterile for my liking. music
made with machines that sounds like it was made by a
machine. where is the humanity? hahaha.

It's not a terrible review though, basically the guy was
rather overwhelmed by it all and thought it didn't have
quite the same hook as Lip Switch. Which to be fair is true,
I still love the album however, but I can see what he'd be
getting at.

but.. is there less humanity in making music with machines
that tries to disguise that very fact?

Devine's intricate tracks are very very excellent
(lipswitch), however they have the property where they can
sound rather farty when played on a normal sound system for
some reason- sort of the same thing happens to many mp3.com
etc artists. They're suberb on headphones. His ambient
tracks do just about nothing for me most of the time and I
usually skip over them.

yeah it's a bad review, doesn't say anything.

i don't look at it as a disguise i guess, but i see what
you're saying. Read the liner notes to the movie soundtrack
PI. it's mostly bullshit but something that stuck with me
was something about finding a soul in the machine, making
music that sounds human from a cold hunk of plastic and
metal.

i get what you mean.

I wasn't really posing it as a serious question though, or
something i'd give a lot of thought to.. it was just
something that flashed into my head really.

squarepushers 'manifesto' thing says something about the
subject, I thought it was quite interesting to read but its
also a complete load of wanked up shite
