The press has been reporting stories of illegal outdoor raves appearing again. Police shut down a rave in Essex on Saturday night and there was also one on Ministry of Defence land in Brecon this weekend.
It seems a new generation, many of whom weren't even born during the last rave era of the late 80s, are sick of superstar DJs, expensive clubs and fashion-fascists.
And these are no hippies either; one cop got himself a broken collarbone and another a severed finger. Fight the power!!!!

Cops are just a bunch of fellas doing their job. They're not the "power" maybe it's puppets sometimes. If some cunt had a knife to your throat, you would be glad to see a policeman.
superstar DJs: They died out at least five years ago.
expensive clubs: If it's good music, it's worth paying for.
fashion-fascists: They isn't any fashion anymore, most people tend to buy cheap, tacky shit from Topman or Next. A little bit of exclusion would do popular culture some good.

COPS: "Cops are just...doing their jobs"? I seem to recall some at Nuremberg claiming that defence.
SUPERSTAR DJs: A number of them played in my hometown only last night (Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buuren, Pete Tong, John Digweed, Seb Fontaine etc).
EXPENSIVE CLUBS: Rather you than me.
FASHION: Topman sell fashion, albeit cut-price fashion.

If it was a fucking amazing line up, a nice long session, good crowd, and a nice venue with a decent sound system, of course. People spend shitloads going to festivals, so why not?

Festivals are a different matter in my eyes.
I'm not a big fan of clubs in the first place. Possibly because the ones nearest me are pretty shite.

I'm not comparing our Majesty's fine constabulary to Nazis, I think they are absolutely topping. I am merely attempting to shine my torch on the rather weak grounding of your argument.
As for clubs, they are more often than not run by local gangsters and I'd sooner trample a farmer's field than put my hard-earned money into the pockets of undesirables.

Essex raves, haha, some of the worst I've been too, full of cheesy quavers, no respect from police or residents, crap weather, shit facilities, £3 for a lukewarm bottle of lucosade etc etc.
I went to a rave in Berlin's surrounding countryside and it was heaven, music average, but really well organised, great people, fantastic vibe and atmosphere, old people were coming out of their houses to chat to us on the way back for christs sake.
Rave never died, it just chilled out and moved to Europe

German efficiency eh.
So they never went away. But have they increased or scaled up? Or is it just a bigger crackdown and something for the press to fill their pages with?

I was chatting with some friends yesterday about the Brecon rave. Apparently it was an illegal chopper bike meet that cluminated in a rave in the evening and the people there were absolute headcases, so it's not suprising a few police got a bashing. I briefly spoke to a couple of the people heading back from it on Monday when I stopped to see if they'd broken down/were lost. Seemed like decent enough people, but I wouldn't have liked to get on the wrong side of them.
As to it being MOD land, I go hiking up round there a lot and whilst some of it belongs to the MOD, it's very rare to actually see them using it and a small amount of mud/litter left by the rave wouldn't have done any damage.
So, it looks like a rave, that was hurting no one and about as victim free as possible (had it really been pissing the MOD off, they'd of dispatched Military Police), but still the police decided to go and interfere. I don't have a lot of sympathy with them, Ezkerraldean's quoting of the Prodigy liner notes is rather apt: It looks like they wanted to stop it on principle, rather than because anyone/anything was being hurt by it.

I suppose they are different to early 90s raves, but times change, music changes. Some are tiny, some are thousands. But essentially its just some friendly people in a field at night and some music. I think its just a media frenzy this summer. In kent there was a big one in may that damaged nature reserve, and I think that started the police off here

I've not got any problem with the police, "just because they're police", nor do I neccessarily see them as just "the man"'s pawns. I'm matey with several coppers and even, at one point, considered joining the force.
What I do have a problem with (and it's something that's increasing) is police being sent to break things up just as way of enforcing control on the populace in general, rather than because there is actually any real victim, or any real moral (rather than legislative) criminal act being commited.

This is hilarious. Apparently there was a rave about 1/10 of a mile away from me Saturday night. I missed it. I was at a bowling party 20 miles away. I can't believe it. Nothing ever happens in Stroud (where I live). This is fucked up.
I shall prepare some Autechre.
