can anyone recommend a good digital camera that's:

- not expensive
- is of decent quality
- has adjustable shutter times
- could be used for ir photography

basically, a camera that could has some fairly professional
features, but is usable/affordable to an amateur with very
little experience/cash.....

well firstly, how much cash do you have to spend?

well - i suppose i'd prefer to spend £200 or less, but
could stretch to a little more if needs be.

basically, i really don't know what i'm talking about.

i'd like a "big" camera, i.e. one of the ones you can put
filters and things on. i've been looking on ebay - a lot of
them are "big" - how do i know that i can stick filters on?

i'd also like to be able to vary the shutter speed, etc. and
i'd like it to be fairly feature packed.

build quality would be very important to me, though. and of
course, i'd want it to take decent quality pics.

all advice very gratefully received.....

IMO: shooting in IR-mode doesn't actually depends on a
camera itself, theoretically you can do it with any camera
that allows to set up extended features like
color/polarization filters, lenses, etc.. You need to check
the camera specifications to be sure if you're allowed to
put extension filters on it. For instance, take a look at
Panasonic DMC-FZ20/FZ30.
Cameras with replaceable lenses are usually SLR-type
(professional) and cost pretty much.. like $700 and more.
