Hi,
If you've got a modular synth, get a ZX Spectrum, learn how
to use the BEEP command then get an Envelope Follower +
Frequency/CV Converter. You can then use your ZX as a pretty
complex sequencer for a very very small price.

hmmm... can u emulate that kinda stuff?

i've always been interested in creating music
on the spectrum and all my older computers.

do you have any links on the net?
do you know of any beginners guides?

Do you have a modular futureimage? Or are you building one?

I am probly going to invest in this soon. Or just
be a cheapie and start a paia system.

I'm looking at building Ken Stone's CGS from kits, yes. I'll
probably buy the Analogue Solutions Freq/CV + Env Follow but
recase it so I can use it with my Soundlab.

1up: This is just merely getting a spectrum, programming
about 10 lines of code (depends how many "steps" you want to
your sequence) then putting a repeat command in. Nothing
fancy.
There's not much point in emulating it either. You may
aswell just use something like Vaz if you want that.

You might want to look at these kits. Probably
cheaper than buying.

I am probly going to go Paia if I build a modular. I don't
know that much about electronics besides a little quick
fixing or bad circuit bending, and aparently their
instructions are very simple to follow. Plus they have a
modular system (two vco, two vcf two vca) that costs 450,
and is compatible with the other components that hey have to
build.

is pitch to CV kinda finicky?

Is the Envelope Follower used to trigger gate time?

Ok. Do they supply front panels? It's probably easier for
you if they do. I know the CGS kits don't, but there are
several people manufacturing them.

link to Analogue Solutions Freq/CV + Env Follow?

Pitch to CV should be ok here as it's a perfect square wave
that's being used.
The envelope follower I think just goes straight into the
VCA, I'm not sure. It triggers the sound anyway.

Analogue Solutions Freq/CV + Env Follow is similar to the
esp section on the korg ms-20?

Analogue Systems, sorry, I always get those confused.

So the sounds coming out of the zx are going through their
own vcas before hitting the env follower? What is the
synthesis structure on the zx spectrum?

Good, I hear Analogue Solutions sucks

My mate is well into his Doepfers. They cost too much
but sound amazing! I'll stick with my nord micro mod.

Yeah, they do. They aren't pretty though.

I would just as soon get the faceplates made though. And the
case would be something I would want to build. So that the
wood can be of the same material as my desk.

You can get some good deals with doepfer stuff through ebay.

The ZX -> Enevelope Follower -> VCA (or maybe ADSR)
