Getting a new camera at work. Apparently it's got to be a
Sony. Which of these two is best? I've been trying to
compare them and they seem pretty equal. Anyone care to add?

it's actually really difficult to make it out from the
avatar, even with its movement paused.. especially, i can
imagine, if you hadn't seen the original youtube.

pretty equal? one is a dslr, and one is a 'prosumer' (i dare
not say a 'compact') with a fixed lens.

what's your budget?

no, even after looking at the video
maybe i dreamt it but somebody said the old jew thing,
though that sounds all bigotry, it's supposed to be a
complaining old man walking the street with his hand at his
head, looking down

They're the exact same price. £587.49

I know they're technically different but in comparing specs
I can't really decided which is the better bet for the
money.

I'm tempted by the A100 mainly because it's the newer.

i'd go for the r1. although the top-mounted lcd is fuckin
silly, it still has live preview, and that on a cmos sensor.
very nice lens, although zoom range isn't fab (but still
enough for most ends). i'd guess you pay a small fortune for
something similar on the a100.

where do you work and what's the purpose of the camera?

I work in a hospital of all places. The main use is for
recording the state of external works and the location of
asbestos etc.

Any other camera you recommend that's good quality?

well, which lens do you get for that price? do you realise
the kit lens might be pretty crappy?

are you really going to be buying more than one lens for
this one?

if not, then buying the a100 is pretty pointless, since the
R1 has in one lens:

-wide angle
-telezoom
-macro

this converts to 3 different lenses on a dslr.

new cameras arent always the best ones.

i could recommend a dozen good cameras. i dont really see
why you would need something of this size for that sort of
purpose though.

remember these cameras are both pretty huge.
also, neither of them have movie recording capabilities,
which is sometimes useful for documentation (able to include
sound etc).

but yeah i guess they want a sony for a reason. and i do
suppose these 2 are in fact fine cameras.

Thanks dude, the camera I really want is the DSC-F828 but
they don't make that anymore and the company we have to buy
through doesn't stock it. Shame.
