do you actually need to compile a squarepusher best of?

if you need more than several times 74 minutes, might as
well give up - you'd just end up with most of his tracks in
a different order than on the albums, which is kind of
pointless...

i'm not really fond of best ofs anyway. compilations of
b-sides and unreleased tracks are good though.

A good comp should be about 45 minutes, or one side of a
C90.

he's got more than 1 cd of essential tracks. i was just
thinking there are so many equally excellent tracks it's
actually not possible to pick up 15 out of them. i'm not
selecting tracks, just noticing.

Like Ae/Afx/BoC/plaid and other artists who have released
several albums. I would also have trouble putting their
music into one cd, but if you want to introduce someone to
Sqp, you shouldn't make it too long. I would choose the most
easy-listening tracks, and make 50 mins long . Everything
over 50 mins bores me.

Hmmmm...I tend to make compilations for people that aren't
really into electro/good house or
techno/dubstep/whatever...so it has to be the cream of the
crop, about twelve tracks in 45 minutes seems to be just the
right length.

for squarepusher: easy - 3 tracks from "feed me weird
things" + "port rhumbus"

for ae: 47 tracks from 94-05 (6 hours)
for afx: 93 tracks from 92-05 (8 hours)

It is good to hit up time periods also. Autechre stuff pre
97-98 doesn't always sound right next to the later stuff.
So that might be one way to approach it. Make one CD of his
early stuff and another of the later stuff.
