What has everyone been buying recently? Or downloading?

For me it's:

Cut Chemist - The Audience is Listening
Really nice. I don't really know why I bought this. I've
heard the name Cut Chemist plenty of times, but I kinda
disliked the so called turntablist side of hiphop after
listening to Kid Koala's albums. But this one is more
musical. Still has the weird samples, scratching work and
such, rapping, but also has songs which sound like something
DJ Shadow might do. So overall I think it's nice. You get a
bit of everything instead of too much unlistenable crap like
Kid Koala's are to me. :P

MSTRKRFT - The Look
This album is kind of like Daft Punk, meaning it's basically
like a retro/dance type of thing, if that makes any sense.
But it's kind of annoying. I really like the main single,
Work On You, which also has a great video for it, but the
rest of it seems too similar. It gets old pretty quick in my
opinion. Most people might not know of these guys, they're a
Canadian group, but worth a download anyway if you like Daft
Punk.

Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow
I like this album a lot. I'm not a huge rap fan, and I find
most rap makes me feel stupid when I listen to it, but at
least this album has lyrics which seem to actually have a
message. The songs have nice beats and the rapping I
actually find enjoyable, so thumbs up! :)

lately?
i have downloaded a bunch of Pink Floyd that i didn't have
on my iPod: meddle, ummagumma, wish you were here, piper at
the gates of dawn. I guess it was triggered by Barret's
recent demise.

i downloaded "Mr Nogatco" which i have found to be
predictably disappointing. It has like 2 'moments' on the
whole frikkin album.

just got the new TV on the Radio "return to cookie mountain"
after hearing rave reviews. listened to it. didn't do
anything for me.

got Depeche Mode's "best of" as i never really got into them
and decided to get a smattering of what is considered their
creame. it was well creamy.

got the new Phoenix after reading a review on Pitchfork that
mentioned their likeness to Hall and Oats. also i really
liked that song of theirs on the Lost in Translation
soundtrack. Haven't listened to this one yet.

finally, i downloaded the Gnarls Barkley album, after
getting the two radio hits painfully embedded in my brain
mush. thought i'd give the rest of it a listen. so far,
EXTREMELY but predictably LAME. not a big fan of
dangermouse anyway.

that's about it.

Ill talk about UZIQ - TANGO N VECTIF.. because I just
listened to it again...

Great album, I really enjoy the old sounds.... I find that
when I listen to all the classic oldies from artists like
uziq and afx, squapusher.. etc etc that it really reminds me
of those days, and it takes me back a bit, also it makes me
really enjoy this sound as opposed to a lot of the newer
style. I guess ive always like the old styles of many of the
more popular artists in these genres. I dont know what it
is. In this release (which is his first pretty much) the
sound is awesome on vinyl and it really livens things up a
bunch. The melodies and soundscapes found here are unique,
especially back in 1993.... and still to this day, this is a
great album.

what are we buying in the last week or so?

isan - plans drawn in pencil...do you like isan? if yes,
you'll like it. if not, maybe not.

animal collective - here comes the indian...serenity now,
insanity later...or maybe the other way around.

animal collective - sung tongs...it grips you, then
releases, then grips again...animal collective only wants
what's good for you.

rocky votolato - can't recall the title, but if you check
the tune "passing white daisies" i'm sure you'll be glad you
did. "there's a secret magic password, that you only notice
when you're looking back at it, all i want to do is turn
around..."

the dylans - planet love cd single... neopsychedelic pop
music from the early nineties, it cures cancer.

swervedriver - ejector seat reservation...still percolating
in my mind, noisy pop rock from the mid nineties, rereleased
in europe by the benevolent sony corporation...

now let's talk about you...

After far too long I got Basic Channel - Basic Channel and I
found on eBay Fawn's Klip EP. These are my latest purchases.
I want to buy all the current and forthcoming R&S and A.R.T
re-issues but realise I will have to get more work to
finance these initiatives.

Next ill discuss Biosphere - Polar Sequences CD with HIA

This album is quite awesome, it was recorded live on top of
a mountain, the two artists (HIA and Biosphere) were
commisioned to make this album using sounds sampled/sourced
from the surrounding area, so they used melting water, ice,
wind, people talking, the sound of the cable car.... all
mixed into and featuring other organic sounds, very nice - a
few songs have somewhat of a beat. these tracks shift on
their own and have a defenite cold feel to them, which is
what biosphere is really known for I think.

I love it.

I upgraded my computer recently, so I have not been able to
buy any records due to lack of moneys. Downloaded lots of
stuff though. Lately I have been listening mostly to This
Heat, Helen Love, Comets On Fire, White Light Circus,
Peeping Tom and Os Mutantes.

bought:
• Bola - Soup
• Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
• Outkast - Aquemini
• The White Stripes - Elephant

i haven't listened to the Bola one in its entirety so far,
but it sounds just as good if not even better as Fyuti.
still as spacey/trippy. : )
i like the Outkast records very much as well, am very
probably getting all their albums now... just missing the
first one.

ordered, not received yet:
• A Guy Called Gerald - Essence
• Terje Isungset - Igloo
• The Future Sound Of London -

Igloo is an album entirely made of sounds of
instruments carved out of ice. more info here (and there are
samples at aquariusrecords.org too).

in my basket:
• Air - Virgin Suicides OST
• The Stooges - Fun House
• Oöphoi & Louisa John-Krol - I Hear The Water Dreaming
+ maybe some Quannum album i haven't got yet...

Orbital - Brown Album 2xlp

This takes me back, these guys know how to do it. Classic
stuff... Cant say much about this that hasnt been said
before, I love revisiting the classics and this is a prime
example. I didnt really like Orbitals newer stuff.... Brown
album, Green, In Sides and Middle of Nowhere are the ones I
like... I can listen to them over and over. Great stuff.

Loveless has a few splendid tracks ('Only Shallow' and
'Soon'), but overall i don't find it an absolute masterpiece
like everyone else does... now you should probably get it
anyway; like i said, almost everyone thinks it's a
masterpiece and loves it.

MBV's "Loveless" is overated and is quickly boring imo, even
if I still think it's OK.

But don't get OK computer, it is no very good and pavement
is not that good neither imo.

Brr i don't think the albums listed in this thread are very
good ; lots are OK and enjoyable but I can't find a very
good one here, sadly.

I purchased recently :

Handsome boy modelling school - so how's your girl ? [a
prince paul and dan the automator eclectic compilation,
awesome!]
J-Live - the best part [great hip-hop !]
VA - geology vol. 2, a story of planet e [it is a mix of
some old planet e tracks, for example carl craig, recloose,
common factor -> very nice !]

I got the pcp ep by the mover ('we have arrived') have been
alternating it with kid606 and 'devil's chimney' by exile as
a set-finisher. It's fookin brilliant I tells ya.

Bought 'Pink' by Boris the other day only listened to it
twice but it's a crazy crazy record. Boris are a Japanese
hardcore band and they seem to be utterly utterly brilliant.
