hell

If it wasn't Israel would you people still be against the
current conflict? Or is the argument against them all on the
pretext that they are an artificial country living on
someone else's land?

i think that's a small part of the argument. add to that,
Israel is the cat's paw of the U.S. essentially fighting the
cat's paw of Iran. but there are many facets about this
conflict to hate. the deaths of more civilians than
soldiers being my favorite thing to hate on.

War is an outdated method for solving conflicts, it is
horrible and it can never be executed fairly, but it is
still here. Israel is only doing what any other country
would do in their place. Hezbollah are holed up around
civilians. They are attacking from places where civilians
live in clusters. This tells me Hezbollah WANTS not only
civilian deaths on the Israeli side, but also on Lebanon's
side. Forget about the long history and think about this
objectively perhaps. I feel horrible for Lebanon. They are
only in the crossfire. The whole country, but they shouldn't
have let Hezbollah commandeer their land.

It's not going to end with Hezbollah s defeat. The Us can
pump Israel with loads of weapons but they are surrounded.
This pathetic colonialism attempt is going to fail and end
in even more of a mess.

i think people fight wars these days for stupid reasons... i
mean, world war II was justified in my eyes, but the stuff
that's been happening recently? i think it's just stupid and
pointless, i mean nothing major is happening but everyone
has to take major action to correct it. i'm just sick of the
world right now. i wish i had some drugs to do.

world war II was rockin'! But conflict is a part of human
nature, it is stupid and pointless but that's what we are.
It's bedtime for me!

how many people have joined hezbollah since all this began?
i reckon there could be loads. people who have lost their
homes to the israeli army over the last few weeks, and are
so pissed off they want to fight back.

most of the lebanese people interviewed on BBC news seem to
support hezbollah

1 no most don't support hezbollah
2 people don't decide to join hezbollah like that

on BBC news
theyve interviewed about 5 civilians over the whole thing,
including one woman i remember whos apartment in Tyre was
blown up, and a group of guys in a cafe in north Beirut and
all of them said stuff like "i hope hezbollah are
victorious" etc. and from their poinr of view, i dont blame
them. they have nothing to do with the war, had done no
wrong until their families and property were blown up with
no warning.
of course, the same is happening in israel too. is all a
huge mess

I can't believe I never thought of it like that. I've always
always hated war and the idea of it, but just because of the
deaths that occur more than anything else. But yes, it is
hugely outdated. Why should it be decided that one country
or set of countries gets what they want because they win the
"fight". Seems childlike and playground-esque, when dealing
with situations that affect the lives of so many

i believe earlier figures said else, 5 interviews aren't
representative, maybe they just wanted to show the opinion
is shifting though

from the other side, what else could israel have done?
hezbollah just decided to fire missiles into israel with no
immediate provocation.

some covert sabotage shit would have been better i guess. or
some sort of deal with the lebanese government if possible.
surely they can reign hezbollah in?

no it started with that kidnapping, which israel saw as an
opportunity, israel started it pretty much, they should have
worked with lebanon government to go after hezbollah

it's the same 'pro active' approach as america invading
iraq: utter stupidity, creating hate, making things worse
for generations to come

oh yeah, the kidnapped guys
a covert op thing would have worked then, they could have
got them back and that would be it

"No immediate provocation"? Now, I understand that terrorism
works by targeting civilians, but even Hezbollah usually has
certain reasons for timing its actions... The timeline of
the events is somewhat obfuscated in Western media, but let
the truth be told: The quarter of a century campaign of
Israeli aggression and occupation against Lebanon is hardly
a non-issue here. More specifically, the capture of the
Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah was a standard war time
procedure, something Israeli forces practice all the time.
Israel has just chosen to value, for propagandist and
chauvinistic purposes, a single Israeli soldier more than a
hundred (Israeli or Arab) civilians.

As it happens, I have huge sympathies for Israeli soldiers,
if only because conscription is a (deplorable) fact of life
in the country - still, 'proportionate' this response was
not.

Now, random launch of missiles is a useful tool for both
sides, since it involves massive civilian casualties (of
course, Israel usually claims to aim at specific leaders and
such), which creates unease and fear, which creates a desire
for tough leaders.

Where's the next Sharon, Netanyahu or Arafat? Right there,
look, seeing his mommy blown to pieces.

of course there is the general anger at israel for their
wall and the bulldozing and all the other palestinian shit,
plus the past invasion of lebanon. obviously there is a lot
of anti-israel sentiment in the area. and even more since
all this recent shit since, regardless of the past, loads of
lebanese have just had their lives completely ruined by the
israeli military. im convinced hezbollah has much more
support by lebanese civilians now than it did two months
ago.

did hezbollah expect all this when they kidnapped the two
guys?

UN denounces Israel cluster bombs (but obviously won't do anything about it)

UN clearance experts had so far found 100,000 unexploded
cluster bomblets at 359 separate sites, Jan Egeland said.

"Ninety per cent of the cluster bomb strikes occurred in the
last 72 hours of the conflict, when we knew there would be a
resolution," he said.

I thought that was nice.
