he probably knows people want to know and doesn't answer on
purpose you know. i would do that too..99% of people who
want to read about his gear probably couldn't come up with
decent 1 minute of music even if he let them use his studio.
because instead of gettinf the idea of music they would
probably get off to twiddling knobs.

he wants to make a box for yamaha or korg or someone.
please! - he says...huhu...it will be good if i see the box
on the market someday.

"they would probably get off to twiddling knobs." oh yes,
but there's no escape from that - if you like synths, there
is going to be a lot of knobtwiddling around... :D (as long
as you don't release it as "music" - knobtwiddling is like
guitar solos, interesting for some and completely
uninteresting for the nonsynthnerds...)

hey!

ask yourselves whats worse?

afx doing a crummy interview

OR

a gaggle of nerds getting upset and throwing a mass wobbly
about it

this is stupid. he doesnt have to do anything and doesnt owe
anyone shit. how many of you actually bought future music
anyway?

bloody hell.

thanks hma for the link tho

anyone can buy a synth and do that, we don't need aphex to
talk about it in interviews though :) this is quite a nice
cliche about idm fans infact..

what do we "need" from aphex in an interview?

is this an excellent question.

He should continue doing interviews as he always has... With
a sense of humour and an aversion to answering correctly.

I like the sense of humour, I like the "mystery", and if
this is how he wants to portray himself in the media, good
for him. I like the name drops of earlier electronic
composers, if I didn't know who they were I'd search them
out... I like the fake/real claims of dreaming his melodies
or riding an armoured car.

Some people "need" a list of his entire studio and his
favourite presets/VSTs/FXs/etc...
This would be nice but I have the feeling that unless he
would donate it to my cause, there is no chance he would
ever do it

Maybe people wouldn't be as interested if he did speak
candidly about his process. Which tells me he enjoys the
attention. I don't think caring about that stuff makes you a
nerd that can't hum a melody. Richard has to have some nerd
in him to wrap his head around his gear.

you can take the action of make tracks as a work or
as a hobbie-no matter if you get money or not.

if you put your energies on this work and then money comes
is allright-but if a jounalist/fans comes and starts to
fuck..then...

Definitely it is true that caring about his gear makes you a
nerd... But also, he is a nerd too. Even if he didn't make
his own gear, or program his own softsynths, he's definitely
a kind of nerd to have gotten this far with electronic
musicks and gear and warez.

I appreciate his lies/myths, because I enjoyed many a
conversation with my friends when we used to get excited
about his evilness/drug habit/dropping things on the head of
Ministry of Sound patrons.

yes, he didn't built synths, let's make that clear

I agree with you, but I hope that next interview he tries to
cloud the issue and includes just enough facts/information
to make it plausable.

Tead the whole thing yestarday. I personally found it very
interesting, I liked a few of questions... The one regarding
his studio, his thousands unreleased tracks, what his thinks
about music made on laptops ecc. I didn't know he used to
build his own gears, that one really amazed me.

Chances are he really didn't make his own gear... but who
knows? I'm sure he could design it, but actually build it
himself?

If he did build it himself, I want him to post right now and
say something like:

Full built it, it was lush, cunts you make me laugh.

im sure he would know how to rewire a few things to make it
sound different..when he says someone from roland or yamaha
to contact him in order to build a super synth is half true
i reckon. with his ideas and rolands' staff they could
perhaps come up with something interesting.

as for building his own stuff..is it really that hard to
make a few adjustments to your gear..everyone could do it
probably..just depends what the sound of it would be like.
im sure he has ruined some synths doing that, but im also
pretty some 'experiments' tourned out well for him.

it isn't that hard to interprete what he says innit :)

agreed 100%, i_x_ten

i enjoyed this interview thoroughly, anytime richard is in
the mood to shoot the breeze about the process of releasing
analord or his current listening pile is ok with me.

he's a musical prodigy, period. if you're looking for the
details of how he makes his music, a full list of software
and hardware isn't going to help you very much...

thanks to whoever scanned this
