No, I dont care about football at all, even less about world
cup, it's all money and drugs and people try to explain you
it brings the contries together in a big bubble of love,
it's hypocrism at its best !
french people are usually beyond belief when they defend
their opinions. All the swiss people were mostly calm about
the world cup, ring me if you see one swiss player using his
head as a weapon for a stupid match.

they're all too affraid to show their emotions. if someone
said something bad about your mother would you just stand
there?

at 3 minutes of the ending of my carreer I would at least
try !
And thats a stupid excuse, they must insult each other
everytime they cross each other, too bad they dont have
micros on them !

man you've got your ideas a little mixed up and linked in a
funny personal fashion! it does bring the country together.
hypocrisy in those explanations can only come from people
getting money from the world cup and they're a small part.
hypocrisy is just part of any business btw.
sure the swiss people were calm, they knew from the
beginning they wouldn't win it, and honoured their
expectations. then zidane's head was not used as a weapon
for a stupid match, it was the reply to a serious insult,
during a not-so-stupid match. come on why do you hate
france?

I only think violence is justified, when its in response to
violence (and even then, not always). I do not respect him
at all for doing this, even if Materazzi DID say something
about his mother in the hospital. Why not just say "fuck you
you piece of shit" and then play on, and beat them, and
shove it in their face that way?

Sure, emotions and adrenaline were probably running high,
but it still doesn't justify it. I think its sad/pathetic.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2006-07-10 11:36 [#01935201]

why would he cry about it. that's for sissy italians and
portugals to do :)

ok, you should start with the idea that nobody's perfect,
and that some goals are absolutely unreachable for some when
they're easily achieved for others.
btw it's easier for physically weak persons to explain that
violence is always bad than for physically strong persons. i
wonder why.
also, you have no idea what happens in one's mind. zidane is
someone who doesn't speak, he is extremely shy and reserved,
he is extremely sensitive therefore can suffer extremely
from a few words. this is a problem that takes ages to solve
when it can be solved. and it's a problem he is not
responsible for. we all have bad habits, some can lead to
violence even is there are no bad intentions.
he did something forbidden, was punished for it. materazzi
is a cunt, i'd think he deserved it (a heavy injury would've
been better maybe). he is too old to be taught with words
how to behave.

Points: 3772 Status: Lurker | Followup to Zeus: #01935200

btw. physical violence is nothing compared to psychological
violence. i never wanted to hit someone who hitted me,
unless i feel like i need to defend myself. words get much
deeper than hands/heads/feet.

I agree. I just don't think he should be praised for it.

And I'm sure Materazzi provoked it. I'm not saying he's
innoccent... I'm just saying violence was a stupid way to
handle this situation.

Like I said, there was a lot of pressure and tension that
probably enhanced everything, but it doesn't justify it. It
doesn't make it right. And he certainly shouldn't be praised
for it.

And how do you know if I'm physically weak or strong?

i'd agree with you 100%. the italians, however, did play a
very dirty game, and i think zidane had just had enough.

sure, he has a bad temper, but i think it would take a lot
for a man, any man, to do such a thing on his farewell game
(and a world cup final of all things..)

as my french housemate said last night.. "dirty fucking
italians.."

I think it's funny, come on ... a HEADBUUT TO THE CHEST.
During OVERTIME in the last match of the WORLD CUP. And it
was his retirement game!

Yeah what he did was wrong, but it wasn't that bad. It's not
like he farted in his hand and slapped Marco's Mom in the
face or anything.

and who would that be?

redrum: dirty = headbutting someone

and I don't like sweeping statements like "dirt fucking
italians". "dirty fucking materazzi" is fine, but "dirty
fucking italians" just comes off very bigoted (imo)

no, he surely shouldn't be praised for it. and he's not. the
only problem is that he was an example for many kids in the
poor cities/areas (= generally violent) and he gave a
really, really bad example. i'm pretty sure kids will try to
imitate this impressive head-butt.

what i was saying is that sometimes you have no other choice
than violence and i don't think it should be called "stupid"
it's just animal. what's stupid is to pretend we're not, or
to forget we are.

And how do you know if I'm physically weak or
strong?

well, I was refering to people in this thread saying stuff
like "that was awesome" and "im glad he did it" etc.

I agree about the rolemodel thing for sure.

and just because something is animal, doesn't mean its not
stupid. It can certainly be both.

well this topic deserves a forum of its own because we would
have to redefine intelligence and probably wouldn't succeed
in agreeing on a definition. i think animality cannot be
judged in terms of "intelligence/stupidity".

mostly the spoilt ones mostly. the thing is football is one
of the most important things to italians and players are
being really spoilt..they start to think they're gods or
something and get real cocky. not all of them ofcourse, but
that's the attitude lots of them have..more than in other
teams abyway.
