it seems like it's pretty much a better version of a light-organ, which is something anyone can make. i made one... i don't know how to make it do bleep-bloop sounds, but i bet it isn't that difficult.
this would be a lot of fun but i certainly wouldn't pay $100 for one.

It's clever - looks like the light and a photosensor interact in chaotic sorts o' ways. Aside from that it's not much more than one of these. (I keep meaning to build one but am Extremely Lazy)

$100? Fuck off, I made something similar as a school electronics coursework project. 555 chip, couple of variable resistors, capacitor, didn't have the light sensitive bit, but made an even bigger range of annoying noises.
Parts probably cost under 2 quid.
