I just discovered this album after downaloding the top 100 albums of 2004 (according to pitchfork) well downaloding the ones I didn't have... anyway i digress, I absolutley fucking love this album, it is beautiful the opening intro track and the following song are FAN 'FUCKIN TASTIC. its the ultimate in cheesy pop dance, it's everything i wish my music was!

M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, Labels / Gooom
France’s electronic duo M83 return with their second album, their first to be given a more overtly international push. Good timing, for its an adequately analogue collection of electronic pop songs mounted on a bed of fuzzy guitars and computerised vocals – hitting the zeitgeist with considerable aplomb. The tracks often contain a warm, almost romantic undercurrent, something which isnt often associated with music of this kind, and the soundscapeish scope of the composition, rather than the execution, hints at a deep love for My Bloody Valentine and their pioneering execution of electronic pioneering via acoustic means. Surprisingly moving.

it's a little too overwrought for me, definitely, but the followup turned up the histrionics even higher. "run into flowers" is the highlight for me.
the highlight of their career, i think, is when the song from the third album about a deadly car crash was used in a commercial selling a car.

I've only heard this album, i had absolutley no idea who they were. I just love the high charged cheesy sentimental sound to it, its like an electronic version of the microphones! i really did enjoy this album unrecorded being my fav at the mo. I'm gonna grab thie rother albums!

i prefer his most recent album (after dropping the other guy) since it's the most rockin', though it has one or two completely awful tracks.

m83 is one of my favourites as well. love the track 0078h from that album.
'before the dawn heals' us is also real good. better as a whole then dead cities imo.

Grade A fromage. Never got a chance to get into BTDHU but I loved Dead Cities. I thought it was cool to dislike them now, though.
