Why are most messageboard websites so anal about posting
links to .torrents sites?

This overparanoia, is it based on an actual thread from the
big controlling companies shutting people down who do allow
links?

It's just links to websites that probably aren't illegal in
todays laws (in most countries anyways), torrents aren't
illegal if you own the materials copyright etc

bleh I just got banned.

in the Netherlands it's actually legal to download.
uploading is illegal, but downloading isn't. hurray!

"in the Netherlands it's actually legal to download."

what? even if you don't have the original movie / cd etc?

yes. the act of downloading itself, is legal. whatever is
being downloaded.

technically it should be impossible to find anything
copyrighted to download, seeing as it's illegal to upload
anything copyrighted.

it's funny, a Dutch copyright organisation is freaking out
over this (or at least was a little while back) - the Dutch
government pretty much tells them "ooh boo hoo, we can't be
bothered doing something about it, the people you represent
(film moguls) should do something about it through
technological means".

i liked that whole american campaign to ban marker pens. US
copyright states that anything that can be used to infringe
upon copyright is there fore llegal so people campaigne dto
bn felt tip pens as it was possible to copy those funny non
copy cd's by writting around the edge witha pen!
