I am really enjoying both albums they ahve done at the
moment. Bossa Nova covers of new wave songs WHAT MORE COULD
A MAN ASK!!!! i really like the cover of the dead kennedys -
too drunk to fuck and echo and the bunnymen's killing moon.
Great stuff... bring the Bossa!

I like how the boomkat review says "“Nouvelle Vague”
is a concept AND album that could so easily have fallen
victim to cliché or tired novelty
" as if it didn't fall
victim to cliché or tired novelty

i loved the first album... i think they could have done
more with the theme, but the new record is really awful.

three good songs - that is it. the rest are unlistenable to
me.

covering songs from a genre that contrasts with the style
the cover is in.

also see: easy tune (Mike Flowers Pops, as Dan mentions, for
example)

this thread has fallen victim to cliché and tiresomeness

but in a unique way.

the music's shit and no more than a novelty, but this thread
is uniquely tiresome.

by accident. Brian Molko was listening to it and I was
standing in his vicinity, throwing angry looks at him.

I was too late to avoid the dastardly music. give me back
those fucking hugs.

it sounds like anything else within this genre, plus they
probably got the idea from that guy singing david bowie in
the life aquatic.

I'm sorry, I suck at names, but I don't hear anything in
this that I haven't heard in other bands in the same genre.
possibly a slight difference in that they seem to have
"café chatter" on almost all their songs instead of only a
few.

miss Marple has nothing to say against Hercule Poirot, mais
non?

just because I suck at names dosen't mean I don't know what
I'm talking about.

if I were to say "the 12th president of the united states of
america was an idiot," I may still know who I'm talking
about without knowing his name.

Don't care for them that much but anyone that covers a
Tuxedomoon song, even though stripping it of its
personality, deserves to exist.

back in the sixties (america anyway), records like these
were hugely popular... herb alpert built a career out of
covering pop songs like this.

brasil '66 is basically the original nouvelle vague.

the idea is pretty old and has been done to death, but it is
interesting that nouvelle vague takes a specific genre,
they're newer songs that appeal to a certain younger
generation... their first record was fresh because it's
just different enough to work.
