Burial - Burial (Hyperdub)

Has anyone heard / heard of this? I picked it up today,
it's the shit.

Reminiscent of early Photek, though perhaps after he's been
doing a load of bongs all night. Awesome album. Lives up to
the hype that has been shovelled all over it.

They've got it here if you fancy a listen.

it's good and i like it, but i wouldn't say it has lived up
to the hype... i think it's been hyped an awful lot...
don't think it's mindblowing, but yeah, it's a good album as
i said...

the burial album is good because it's dubstep that isnt
complete shit, like pretty much all of it is. it has no
crappy MC image going on with it.

sounds like vladislav delay and boulderdash making a dubstep
record. its unique and its worth the buzz, but it isn't
amazing or anything.

still, its a good dubstep record. that in itself is a feat.

why did i think it's about a Death In June album ?

that's a pretty good description, which probably explains
why i'm not crazy about it. it's dubstep for people who
don't like dubstep. a bit too watered down for me.

it reminds me of the best years of chain reaction/basic
channel/maurizio with this new and fresh dubstep/grime
taste.

i love it

it's the f'n shit (good), i love distant lights
i like dubstep too (pinch-qawalli, dubstep allstars and
skreamizm are my favs)

Yes, Simon Reynolds gave it 5/5 in the Guardian, but they
took it down to a 4, because they suck. I don't think it's
as innovative as people say, but it gets me on an emotial
level. I like it. "Gutted" is great.

offline swears from junk sleep on 2006-06-23 18:19 [#01926134]

None of the tracks is as good as "Midnite Request Line" by
Skream. It's sort of like the spoudtrack to innovation
having a little nap before it comes back to kill NME indie
crap.

I listend to the album today, it's cool. wouldn't call it
innovative though. but it does sound more creative then most
dubstep out there.

I suppose it's the first proper dubstep album.

same here. it's the basic channel twist which makes it
standout.

a pretty boring release to be hyped up so much. i liked the
broken home track from south london boroughs ep sort of, but
really, i snooze tight through the rest of it!

I dunno, it is meant to be laid back, but it still has an
air of menace. And it really sounds like London, I know that
sounds stupid, but it just does.

how is it not innovative, it's unlike anything i've heard
before. dubstep is all about subtleness, don't let that fool
you

It's like music, some good, some ok. The atmosphere is good.
If people say "It sounds like London" enough, eventually it
will. Especially if you've never been there.

ive been raging this album for a few weeks - lovely. verrry
uk sounding. i think i like 2step/garage/dubstep a lot more
when theres no vocals.

Its a very nice album indeed.

Come on Big , i think this works great on headphones too . I
love listening to this kind of atmospheric dark and moody
music when on a train or something.

Yes, this is fresh, one of the best releases this year (but
not the best). It has this flowing, almost minimal, dark
vibe.

I picked this up at the end of last week. Absolutely
stunning album, especially for a debut. I know it is a
strange thing to say but it is an album I climb inside and
experience it's much more than just listening to
sounds...it's been years since I experienced a first listen
that hit me with such magnitude.

It's outstanding because 99.9% of recent output is vile,
unlovable bollocks.

I thought Dubstep was all wank? :P

Yeah, it's a wicked album and I agree with you that it's an
album you really get into properly. Glad you like it.

Swears: I don't think most Dubstep "sounds like london" or
even feels like it. For me, St. Pauls in Bristol is a lot
nearer to it in atmosphere than Croydon, et al. The
exception for this is Burial. It sounds just like driving
around London at night.

Whats the main argument for disliking this album anyway? I'm
just curious how it fails the people who didn't enjoy it.

Personally (and i've posted this a few times here), I think
the album is absolutely stunning and it hits all the sweet
spots for me.

well, put it this way: for me, the only impressive thing
about it is how incredibly fucking boring every single
