I love it. One of those very few albums where theres a
prominent atmosphere that instantly absorbs you into its
space. The album sounds to me like a soundtrack to some
futuristic venue full of cyberpunk subcultures.

this!

I'd say another reason people may have disliked the album
was due to the overhyping by the media/press. The important
thing to remember is Burial (and indeed Hyperdub) never
really promoted the album or proclaimed it to be the best
thing ever. Indeed, if you have ever read the interview with
Burial at Blackdowns site, then he comes across as a very
understated, low-key kinda guy. All the hype came from the
people who listened to it and loved it. Of course, when an
album reaches legendary status before it is even released,
then some people are naturally going to be disappointed.

Redrum shares his opinion with quite a few people. It seems
to be one of those albums you either absolutely love or
absolutely hate. I see it as a headphone album more than a
dancefloor album and it makes for excellent home listening.

I should also add that I generally dislike Dubstep and UK
Garage.

I agree with Brisk. Burial claims to of never planned on
releasing his stuff originally (he didn't think it was of
that level of quality) and just made it for him and his
brothers to listen to. Likewise Hyperdub didn't go OTT (or
indeed, do much to promote it all, bar the breezeblock show
on it) with promotion either. The eager anticipation/hype
was largely due to the South London Boroughs EP being so
good. Personally, my favourite track by him (used to be his
only track I liked) is Nite Train- the one track off the ep
that isn't on the album.

I also agree that (the opposite of most dubstep) it's better
at home than in a club.

I got this the other day based on The Wire magazines review
of it.... essentially "number 1 album of 06".

Man its good.. ncie and brooding, very sexy and not to much
annoying mcing/singing. Played it for my woman the other
night and things got real amorous real quick.

Are the 2 rephlex grime albums worth getting? the less
singing the better.

I'll hold my hand up to being sceptical about the whole
grime / dubstep thing when rephlex first released those
albums and I started reading press about it... Just seemed
to be overhype or something.

I have been listening to that kind of music loads over the
past couple of years. (not all of it is great of couse, but
a lot is good.) They were right, I was (/ am) a knob.
Rephlex rules.

i got this based on the Wire having it as album of the year,
love the atmosphere, vocals are in all the right places, its
not rushed... i'm not familiar with any dubstep really,
never even heard of the genre before today but i love this
album!

Going through my wire magazines at the mo looking for some
good music, next on my list is Scot Walker - The Drift

i don't get it. guess its decent for background stuff, but
it doesn't speak to me. still probably better than 70% of
stuff out i guess.

I can't believe this is over a year old. Magic record, I
still really like it. I still reckon Unite and Night Train
are better than anything on the album, mind.

Didn't think much of Unite to be honest. Night train however
is blinding. I think the track that gets stuck in my mind
the most from the album is forgive. Such a beautiful moment.
Really love U hurt me as well.

ghost hardware, unite and the crackle blues remix are better
than the album tracks i reckon- doesn't have the same magic
for me anymore but i still like it

Yes, the crackle blues remix is my third favourite Burial
track.

Skink: I'm sure months of lusting after a full version of
unite and listening literally dozens of times to the myspace
version might have tinted my judgement slightly. :)

any other non-vocal burial-like actions out there.

Kode9's "( Smaurai" is fucking brilliant track. .....not
into the singing malarky though.
