ok
i bought a cheap turntable like 2 years back just to play
records
i dont really mix/spin but lately i've been kinda wanting
to.

didn't come with a counterweight and ive been using a
make-shift counterweight for sometime (here come the
pics/laughs)

the needle feels pretty light but it still sounds/feels like
it might be too heavy on the records. i can hear some
scratching everynow-and-then .
the table is a numark tt-1520 (probably garbage, it was just
a cheapy) and i need help finding a counterweight.

pics
here

and

here

lawl @ starburts!!!

uh... that's actually the coolest counterweight i've ever
seen. just stick with that one, i say.

i know it's cool but i don't know if it's my needle (got it
from a friend) or what, but sometimes i hear scratcing/lots
of noise and i thnk i might be puttin too much pressure on
the record (i..e not enough counterweight)

and counterweights generalyl tend not to be tolerable to big
differences in weight

and who knows how much all this weighs

: /

Ask Drunken Mastah, he knows his stuff about turntables.

i have no idea. i have to stick a penny or two on my needle
just to make it play normally... otherwise it skips like a
motherfucker.

anti-skate controls the force pulling the arm away from the
centre and towards the rest. yeah that counterweight is
awesome. no idea where to get replacement ones, sory

i just dont want to be hurting my records

how sensitive is the weight for a counterweight???

i mean, it's not putting TOO much weight on the needle, it
still feels fairly light

but still...

i have the same scratch stylus.. i think they're pretty good
for record wear at high tracking forces. the only thing you
can do without a replacement is adjust it to the point just
before it's so light that it skips, i guess.

if that doesn't work, try removing the actual needle from
the stylus and replacing it with a large, dull knife blade.

i mean if it sounds like it's digging into the record movie
it away from the arm a smidge untill it sounds ok

i have the same turntables

p.s. i dont think it's the needle unless it's bent or
anything cause that looks like a pretty good needle

just watch the stylus - if the plastic around the needle is
hitting the vinyl that's too heavy then.

only the needle should touch vinyl.

(maybe you take a picture from the side of the stylus so i
could watch?)

then, when you have managed this one you should take the
vinyl and make moves with it like you would want to scratch
- back and forward, back and forward. the other hand should
be on the anti-skating knob. turn it left or right as long
as the needle skips.

mail numark and ask about replacement counterweight.
optionally, a store that sells numark or check online
stores.

how old is the needle and how often do you use it? do you
scratch?

offline elusive from detroit (United States) on 2006-06-23 09:06 [#01925888]

no i don't
i got the needle from a buddy of mine since the
needle/cartridge that came with my table is UTTER GARBAGE.

i do not scratch

i will try and email numark today and see what's up.

the needle is probably a couple years old but it's been
RARELY used.

thanks guys,

also, what does that little lever thing do?
i notice it drops the needle a little closer to the record?

i keep it all the way up.

uh

that lever is supposed to take the needle off the record

if it's touching the record while it's up you have way too
much shit on your counterweight
