Song '40-Cal' background to shooting Jun. 10, 2006 at 6:47PM A New Orleans area man who said he playfully pulled a gun on a friend while they were listening to rap music has been charged with negligent homicide. Ronnie Webber of Kenner, La., told investigators he did not check to see if the gun was loaded, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported. The .40-caliber semi-automatic was one his friend Jonathan Beasley had just bought. Kenner Police Department Capt. James Kenner said the two men had been listening to "40 Cal" by The Diplomats while examining each others' guns. After the shooting, Webber called 911 and tried to perform CPR. Beasley died soon after arrival at a hospital. The two men had been friends since childhood. Annie Beasley, the dead man's mother, said young men like her son and Webber should not get guns. "They don't need to own guns because they don't even know what to do with them," she said. "They're too young. Too many of them are killing each other." |
