Somewhat boring story, but good parts none-the-less. Just now seeing it. As far as imagery foes, every second of every single scene is beautiful. This is the best cinematography I've seen in a long time. Would anyone know of any other films that have a constantly captivating beauty?

i liked that movie. the first time i saw it i thought it was the most boring thing i'd ever seen, but when i went back and saw it with a couple friends, i actually realized how much there was to it despite the lack of significant dialogue like i'm used to. it's a good movie for conversation, if you can stand talking during a movie. i know some people hate that.

i guess i should say that i can't be much help on recommending films like it. i'm not that much of a film buff, i just tend to see whatever presents itself. and that usually doesn't include skilled cinematography like lost in translation had.

Mr. Jams, if you want beautiful imagery try Gerry by Gus van Sant. But be forewarned, though. This movie can push the limits of tedium for some. I loved it the first time I saw it and now own it on DVD. There is a captivating scene in the desert of both the characters walking that lasts for about ten minutes. It also features some music by Arvo Part. I really love this movie. Check it out if you can, and let my know if it disappoints or not.

go see any terrance malick movie. it's all visual poetry. the new world is his latest. i prefer his the thin red line though. new world was just a bit too much of the poetry thing. at some points in the movie it was all about the pictures, and you forgot you were watching a story.

Speaking of Malick...has anyone seen Badlands? An excellent picture. Has some great cinematography, too. But it's a seventies film, so maybe not the modern cinematography that's being asked for. Still worth a viewing.

Oh, thanks for reminding me of the great Jim Jarmusch. You must check out Stranger than Paradise. Beautiful black and white cinematography.

Yeah, Girl with a pearl earring was awesome. It is the only film that looks exactly like the paintings from that time period. It's like watching a painting. Stunning cinematography.

only by myself and only at night
reminds me so much of work trips where im by myself
i can relate fairly well, except not quite on that scale.

every jarmusch is great ! coffee and cigarettes is pure classic. the second part of it also.

its about time someone came in slagging off Lost In Translation...i loved it though.
if you liked Lost in Translation why not try Lost In Space. there is a very memorable scene where this guy turns into a massive shit alien and you realise just the extent to which youve wasted the last hour of your life. very moving.

i had that with Identity. the point where you realise the past hour all happened inside a sick mans mind, made everything pretty useless. i was very moved....and that little fella at the end... *sigh*
