XLT VIBES #20 | Pop songs

Rules:

Must be an original composition.

Must feature some sort of melodic vocal (vocoders are
acceptable)

Must be less than four minutes in length.

Must be fucking wicked.

And just to make sure they're not too "rock" we can ban
guitars or something.

hahaha, like anyone here can produce a decent pop song.

thats why we all participate in click-bleep wankery, so
noone can tell what we really do is shit.

wait, thats pretty much all electronic music, not just xlt
:P

I just get the feeling that with a lot of men in their
twenties singing songs, things could go a bit too much in
that direction. It's a bit too obvious.

C'mon this could be really interesting and or amusing. It's
totally different for all the previous vibes ideas.

No, original songs only. Let's stay away from fucking around
with wave files.

i want to try singing for my tracks, just to see if i can
make any use of it. i just want the house to be empty when
I record cause I'll sound like a fag

we should make up some lyrics and then get everyone to try
and write and record a song for them

than this but i guess it could be done.

People can do jokey songs if they want. Look at Ween, all
they did was fuck about and they're a great band.

i made a track some months ago that fits that description.

its called 'balloon animal terrarium'. (the file is called 'white walrus'...?

not submitting it for a vibes though.

we could just make it electronic songs with a major singing
part

Yeah, but the idea is to break away from doing standard
electronica, while still using the skills you aquired from
making it in the past.

A Perfect suggestion. I've been waiting for this, but
haven't remembered to post it myself. I think DirtyPriest
will like this a lot. But if this becomes a pinned thread,
are you sure I couldn't add guitar (not in the "rock" style,
but more of for backup like in The Postal Service?).

I think it's a very good idea, I think it's also interesting
the largely negative response. Good pop music is fantastic,
obviously. But as hedphukkerr says, beat fuckery and
layering on the fx is one thing, composing a pop song quite
another. It's a very good idea though, I'd like to hear what
came out of it. Maybe a list of the Best Pop Songs Ever
would help, so as to remind younger readers that Pop doesn't
always equate Pap.

this is a great idea, yes. i'm definitely up for it, but i
can't promise any good tracks. just the experimentation in
itself though, especially in a bigger circle, is great fun.
bring it on plzzz.

You are completely right. I would both love to create a song
for this, and listen to what people on the board could come
up with!

Very good idea, i totally support this in every way
thinkable

sometimes, but don't let that spoil these kids dreams of pop
