Amazon's recommendations

Does anybody esle find the amazon.com recommendations to be
quite a nice/useful feature?

I've never bought anything from them, so I feel kinda bad
for just using their services (but i ain't got a credit
card, so what can I do?)

:)

Of course it ocassionally throws up some junk like The
Chemical Brothers or Garbage, but the fact that you can
click "not interested" means it shouldn't come up again, and
I guess it works on refining your musical taste a bit more.

Actually if it weren't for amazon, I wouldn't've discovered
progressive rock band Pocupine Tree, and I always love some
prog rock as a break from 'IDM' ;)

It's less annoying than Pandora and Last.fm in my opinion as
well.

Thoughts?

> don't feel too bad, i don't think they're needy.
i personally don't use them, besides i am too lazy to quote
and rate every album i have... and sometimes i'd look at
some album's page which i am not interested into at all for
some reason, and that would modify my recommendations etc.

a site i look at very often for sound samples and
"highlights of the week" without buying anything from them
is aquarius records. i'd buy stuff from them but it seems like
shipping is $18... : /

It works OK but where they've got multiple version of an
item in their system it doesn't take that into account.
Also, it recommends me items I've bought from them. That
annoys me. With a bit of refining it could work a treat.
Although buying a book on zombies and being offered Nina
Hartleys Guide to Anal Sex did make me laugh.

haha

:D

uzim, you're right, it is a pain, but luckily i don't have
that many albums :)

still, its quality, not quantity right? besides, if i buy
more than 3 at a time, i feel like i never 'get to know'
them properly.

but i'll check out aquarius for sure! thanks

oh, and about visiting other random pages....

the other day some person with bad, lame-ass music taste
from work suggested a punk album to me! :-/

i looked it up, but because I don't 'own it' and didn't
'rate it', i don't think it takes it into account. it only
shows up in the 'page you made'.

the multiple release thingy that giginger mentioned is a
problem though, maybe i should give them feedback about it.

i'm sure you could find some zombie anal porn on the
internet if you search well... (i'm not sure i'd want to see
that)

they're handy lists, but then so are the ones pertaining to
"best albums to listen to while vandalising your local mace"

i dont buy their much for the last few years. ive never
really used the recommendation feature on purpose, but it
often recommends me stuff I have already got from other
shops based on the stuff i bought from them , so i guess it
works well.
