best night of my life

went to see the zappa plays zappa gig last night. my friend
louise bought me a ticket (which were rather expensive) for
my 20th birthday.. she also bumped into the keyboard player
the night before and got on the guestlist.. so the show was
fucking incredible, they didn't shy away from the really
difficult material (they did inca roads, black page #1 and
#2, pygmy twylyte, amongst others) and steve vai was his
usual guitar-god wanker.

after the gig though, we got to hang out with the band at a
bar beside their hotel, and had a fucking incredible time.
really sound, down-to-earth people.. which kinda surprised
me - given their amazing musicianship, i was kinda expecting
more remote and distant personalities, but they were jus
straight up there. whatever that means.

anyway it was the best night of my life. please feel happy
for me.

I read a review of the performance in Amsterdam in a Dutch
paper that said that it was all technically very proficient,
but lacking in one pretty important aspect - humour.

they said that Dweezil basically has no sense of it and
takes it all a bit too seriously. some guy in the Amsterdam
audience threw a cd-r on stage and Dweezil stopped the show
and demanded that the guy leave the room.

that was all in a paper, although a friend of mine was there
and he did confirm these seri0s allegations!

No....! Unbelievable. Some of the funniest papa zappa live
bits are about people throwing underwear onstage, like the
famous voodoo butter underpants. Dweezil should be stripped
of his family name.

jesus that's a bit out of order..

the guy's an incredible guitarist, giving steve vai a run
for his money.. but yes, what you said is right - there was
barely any crowd interaction (even though afterwards they
were saying we were the loudest and most boistrous yet).. he
just didn't really respond.. he'd just keep his smile on,
nod a hell of a lot, and play music.

kept me happy though :)
