nostalgia?

TekN010G from Australia on 2001-06-04 09:58 [#00008188]

what does this word mean? I hear people on this messageboard
use it all the time,.. but I feel like an idiot because it's
not in my vocabulary

I hate to be a nonce but could someone tell me what it
means?

Glitch from New Zealand on 2001-06-04 10:02 [#00008189]

its something akin to remembering, like when you sit down
and look through old photos or read old letters. its just
looking back to the past.

for instance, if my dad pulled out a record he hasnt
listened to in ten years, Id say he was being nostaligic :)

Glitch from New Zealand on 2001-06-04 10:03 [#00008190]

saddly some people suffer from Terminal Nostalgia

nano from Malmö/Sweden on 2001-06-04 10:57 [#00008193]

Sitting down in front of your TV and play megaman on your
nes, THATS nostalgia!!

System? Great days.....

Eating Sherbert Fountains whilst watching 'Battle Of The
Planets'........possibly the finest cartoon ever made!

I used to have altered beast for the spectrum 48k, it was
shit.

Hey Od,

How are you ?

Are all your friends hammered off drugs ?

od from perth on 2001-06-04 15:06 [#00008211]

not all
either hammered off drugs or hammerred off craig bloody
david

streamer on 2001-06-04 15:12 [#00008214]

This may be seen as 'controversial', but for what he is,(ie
a 'popstar') I think that Craig David is not half bad and
definately far superior to the likes of N-Sync and that
bitch Geri Haliwell. You may not like his style, but I think
he is a genuinely talented bloke, and I caught a glimpse of
his live show on MTV and it was surprisingly impressive.
PS - Can I just apologise on behalf of the UK for imposing
Geri Haliwell and the rest of that Spice Girl Scum on the
rest of the world. There are no excuses!

Nostalgia is an Italian word too. I have "NOSTALGIA" about
my favourite video games for Commodore Vic20 like RADAR RAT
RACE, CLOWNS and JUPITER LANDER.

M from Fraggle Rock on 2001-06-04 17:55 [#00008224]

Watching "thundercats" or "mask" playing old videogames,
seeing old movies. Well, it's pretty obvious what we spent
all our time doing when we were young. I was practically
plugged in most of my life.

Glitch from New Zealand on 2001-06-04 18:04 [#00008225]

HOW DARE YOU !!! say those things about Geri Haliwell,
havent you seen its "raining men" Id fuck her anyday of the
week...

... except wenesday, because I go food shoping on wenesday,
and I dont want to have to cook her a meal afterwards :)

nekta killa from in a bin on 2001-06-04 22:21 [#00008245]

i love my computers, i have been playing since the commodore
64, but the best was the SNES, the magic of playing import
street fighter 2 turbo never went away.....ahhhh :)

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-06-04 22:26 [#00008247]

yes SNES is the shizzat

Jawhob from Ontario (Soon to be Newfoundland) on 2001-06-04 22:33 [#00008249]

Ahh the good olll' days. One thing though: I find that as
Nintendo put out newer systems, the games got easier! Every
play Metroid on Nes then play it on SNES? Big difference,
but still a great game! That reminds me, there are actually
a few aphex tracks that i think would sound good in a
metroid game!

TekN010G from Australia on 2001-06-04 23:32 [#00008252]

Thanx for the responses peoples,.. I now have a thorough
understanding of the word and have added to my vocab,..

I had a feeling of nostalgia recently when I was playing
bionic commando on the nes,.. that game kicks arse

Aron? from Canada on 2001-06-04 23:49 [#00008255]

My Super Nintend got fucked! i got so many killer games, but
i fryed the system, and it doesn't work anymore!
BAH!
I'll go out and get another one when i get some extra money
together.

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-06-05 00:35 [#00008258]

NES, and SNES are two MUST HAVES for any game lover.. its
the shit man.. totally awsome games. The NES had the hardest
damn games for any system, I still want to meet someone who
actually passed battle toads...... damnit!

od from perth on 2001-06-05 14:33 [#00008313]

i dislike craig (bloody) david, not coz hes popular, but coz
i hear it every bloody day of the week.

streamer on 2001-06-05 14:38 [#00008315]

That's just a case of over-exposure and can happen with any
musician. I'm sure if you listen to nothing but Aphex for
months, you would feel similarly in respect to him.
Sometimes I think too much publicity acheive the opposite
effect from the intended one. For example, a few months ago
I thought that Jennifer Lopez was one of, if not the fittest
bird around, then her face starts appearing on every poster,
in every magazine and on the side of every bus in London and
she starts pissing me off! What's all that about?!
Sometimes less is more........

Everytime I play old NES or SNES games, or watch things like
the Transformers movie, and get melancholic... I'm happy and
nostaligic, but depressed because everything was so innocent
and easy back then.

*cue violins

Things were indeed more inocent then - we didn't have
anything to really worry about!
