Midi Controller Help

I have a usb midi controller keyboard. I would love to hook
up a microphone to it so that I can work with vokator. It
has a left and right channel rca input jacks. Great right?

Problem: Microphones dont have rca cable jacks. They have
3.5mm jacks.

I hooked it up like this..

[L & R RCA midi input jacks]---[RCA to 3.5mm
Y-adapter]---[male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm jack coupler]--[pc
microphone]

sounds fine, I got the microphone jack all the way to the
inputs on my midi controller. But it doesnt work, yet it
works fine if I use some headphones as a mic instead of the
mic!

How come the headphones work as a mic in this setup, but an
actual pc mic wont??

Thank you in advance.

crappy pc microphonse might need an additional "boost".

try it with another simple dynamic microphone.

I'll try another mic then. I was hoping it didnt have to
come to that.

yes my inputs are stereo. However since I was using the Y
adapter i didnt think it would make a difference.

Do you have your midi controller input set to only one of
the ins working? cause you could just have simply plugged in
the wrong side...

Thats a good point! Ill try to switch the left and right
channel and see if that makes a difference.

Well, how would one usually go about hooking up a mic to
inputs?

well, with rca's one jack = left, one equals right. Think of
it like two mono phone jacks.

But you should never use a computer microphone. Those things
suck. If you have a bit of a budget, I would spend $50 and
get yourself a delta microphone, or even a few hundred. You
can get some really nice USB microphones nowadays.
Aparently, USB cable is the best for carrying an audio
signal.
