no matter what options i put in the "construct filename", when the files are created all i get is the 'song name.mp3' with no track number. this is a bit frustrating which means i have to edit all the file names manually to include the track number. perhaps someone can tell me what i'm doing wrong? tnx.

are you using an external encoder like LAME?
if so, these instructions should help

thanx, i never realised the LAME encoder parameter passing preset caused problems with EAC's tagging routines. no wonder i couldn't get it to work, i only recently set it up again.

i think it must be because the track number for the filename is read from the ID1.1 tags and sometimes for whatever reason it doesnt write the number into the 1.1 field but it does in the 1.2.
why why why? :(

use this if EAC's being a bitch. i have no experience with it, but it's supposed to be able to rename collections of mp3's.

no offence taken.
however, if it doesn't work out (for example, in the case where it's just a feature of EAC and not the product of a schoolboy mistake), the program i linked you to was recommended by the people @ the hydrogenaudio/forums (=authority when it comes to encoding soundfiles).
