theres a pretty cool promo flash site too
The Eraser

it will be mostly electronic based
"
this is just a note to say that something has been kicking
around in the background that i have not told you about.
its called The Eraser.
nigel produced & arranged it .
i wrote and played it.
the elements have been kicking round now for a few years and
needed to be finished & i have been itching to do something
like this for ages.
it was fun and quick to do.
inevitably it is more beats & electronics.
but its songs.
stanley did the cover.
yes its a record!
no its not a radiohead record.
as you know the band are now touring and writing new stuff
and getting to a good space so i want no crap about me being
a traitor or whatever splitting up blah blah...
this was all done with their blessing. and i don't wanna
hear that word solo. doesnt sound right.
ok then thats that.

i think its out in july and im pretty certain XL are going
to put it out.

love thom"

interesting also. Never been that into radiohead i must
confess, but this sounds pretty good.

hopefully it's not one of those really cheap erasers that
break off as soon as you use them, or leave pink smudges
when they actually work.

Those are the best ones. Like the ones you get on the end of

Brilliant.

he has said about the new Radiohead album I suspect it will
be self absorbed and tedious. I hope not

I don't know - I've pretty much had it with Thom Yorke and
Radiohead the last few years. it seems to me that since "kid
A" they've been repeating themselves, not so much in the
instruments, but more in the compositions, what they do with
it, but especially the moods in their songs.

I still buy the albums and I listen to them a couple of
times and then they gather dust on a shelf. not even a
special Radiohead shelf. yes, it's that bad.

the bits of electronica have been nice, but not really
groundbreaking, a lot of the times even pretty obvious.

oh well, I'm not saying Radiohead is a bad band, or Thom
Yorke is a git (although I have a strong suspicion he is)
but I don't see what all the fuss is about, really.

Agreed totally about the moods. I almost think they've got
their tongues in their cheeks sometimes... maybe their dark
humor just isn't funny enough or something, but I just don't
know what to think sometimes.

Although I love their sounds and usually the compositions.
Not so much the electronica stuff, which is ''pretty
obvious'' stuff, but things like Pyramid Song with nice
jazz/classical influences. I can't connect with Radiohead on
an emotional level anymore, but I admire their musicianship.

ahaha, i can see that erasure things happening

Im looking forward to this, im guessing there will be some
wierd electronic stuff on this along with some solo
accoustic songs (shite that makes it sound like The Campfire
Headphase). Im guessing Ill spin it more often than THC.

Thom York Vs. Board of Canada- round I

yeah, it's like it's all in one colour, in a way. different
hues of one colour.

some of the songs are brilliant, like you say, "pyramid
song" or "morning bell" (the Kid A version, that is), but
overall..

Radiohead made superb indie rock songs: not much comes close
to my ears. The IDM-lite they've been pedling since (and
including) Kid A, however, has been rather mediocre. Nice
enough stuff, but there are dozens of artists who do it
better.

If this is an opportunity for Thom to go and do his
Warp/Kraftwerk inspired noodlings, without meaning the next
Radiohead album will be in a similar vein, I'm all for it.
Please, please, please, go back to being a proper band and
give us another Bends, or Ok Computer. Thanks.

well i disagree, hail to the thief is very different in the
way the songs are thought. but yeah it's boring.

i think the problem is that they stopped having that
obsession about not failing. and stoppped trying to be
perfect.

I personally do not like the "superb indie rock songs" that
radiohead have made, I on the other hand love
Kid-A
Amnesiac
I might be wrong
and Hail to the thief

I guess if old Thomy goes his accoustic or "superb indie
rock song" ways, i just have to live.

this was the original rumour posted on ateaseweb forum on
19th of april:

"A good friend of mine who works at the Vital Distribution
(the company that deals with the physical distribution of
all Xl Recordings and Warp releases) told me today that Thom
Yorke is almost guaranteed to release a solo record on XL
and that Radiohead are in talks to sign a new deal with Warp
records...
now he might have been pulling my leg but he was fucking
convincing. Anybody else heard such rumours??

according to my friend the solo deal is closest to being
inked.."

Radiohead are a victim of their own brilliant with regard to
httt. Which actually has some of their best songs on it but
it's two tracks too long.

Kid-A / Amnesiac aren't meant to be "electronic" albums,
they are all about flow and mood and there is a lot of
acoustic instruments on them. The synths sound ancient as
well id sooner compare them to Can than Aphex.

I saw the acoustic gig at koko and the new rhead album is
going to be back to the guitars but with nice big bass
grooves and funky phil drums. can't fucking wait and this
album is going to be good as well, Cymbal Rush was played at
koko and is a great song.

so glad theyre back!

One of the reasons Kid a´s synths sound ancient:

Idioteque sample
