yes the kurzweils have top notch quality in sound and features
theyre worth every penny i would recommend at least the k2500xvs
if they k2600 or k2661 are too much the k2600 and k2661 feature the triple modular synthesis and the ultra awesome KDFX board
the k2500 only comes with the kdfx
the vast synthesis platform is amazing though if you get one i highly recommend delving deep into the FUN's functions and parameters for some truely unique sound designing

Heh... Those kurzeil things look very nice. I really want to get my hands on a mangler. Its one of my intended purchases. Honestly, I have my one sampler, and that is more than I need. But it still looks very nice indeed :)

mpc1000. I am not necessarily looking for sample manipulation in my sampler, so much as sample sequencing. I have a kaos pad and quadraverb and a spring reverb unit, and my evolver acts as a BPM synced effect sequencer, so I use those for most of my sample manipulation.
Altho I just said that one sampler is more than I need. I don't know why I said that, what I mean is that one sampler is perfect.

neat. How are you finding the mfc? I want an analogue filter, although currently my eye is set on the frostwave.

i love the mfc however the resonance on it literally SHREDS i tend to avoid it because its actually just painful it sounds great though
and its seamless you can switch from one effect to the next without jumps or jitter
ive never messed with the frostwave gear but i hear good good things
i added you on myspace

What hardware would be good for cutting up field recordings and arranging them in a musical fashion?

Thanks. I already have the regular Machinedrum and I love it. Would not mind having the User Wave version. The MPC 1000 looks incredibly tasty though - I might get that one. Either way, they both cost a lot more than I have. Looks like I will have to work plenty of overtime.

You can always just upgrade your current machine drum with the user wave chip...

"I've got a SP303. The sampling section is a bit rubbish, but
good for loading up with an 808 on banks A and B, then atmospheric loops and longer stuff on the memory card on C and D.
The effects section is killer. Some of the effects are excellent. And the bit where you can turn off the LFO for the phaser and manually adjust it is great. Tape delay is a lot of fun to play with as is the formant thingy.
Editing samples and moving them around, etc is a pain, so just do it on computer transfer them on memory card and leave them once they are on. use the memory like i said, A/B
as a drum kit and C/D as longer looped atmosphereics, etc and its a brilliant box of tricks when you need to inject something into a mix. "
dave_g knows SP303 is where it's at. It's underrated, deceivingly small, and a reasonable price, cheap even. Suckas don't see it coming.
