Concerning E3

redrum, I bet you don't know what videogames are either. I
bet you haven't played with a serious game as well. So, you
cannot come here to say they are just a waste of time
without being quite expert on the topic. As a non-fun of
videogames, you can't also know what an E3 means for us.

Also, I fully second what qrter said.

or better yet, keep commenting every other time tridenti

says something that annoys you, a much better way to spend
your time

Of course no moniters compare to a huge hdtv, but even if
you own an HDTV you can still use it as a monitor. If you
don't own a computer or a laptop then xbox and psp would be
the way to go. However you said that there was no way 360
would be obsolete, but i can see some points that would say
otherwise.

-Only comes with a 20 gig harddrive. 14gig of which is
useable. Thats only 4 more gigs than my second gen ipod and
I have no problem filling that baby up with mp3s alone. So
right there, the storage it comes with is obsolete.

-Bluetooth technology. Xbox doesn't have it, ps3 will.
Microsoft says they might sell an add on to run bluetooth.
This hasn't been confirmed. Even if they did do that its
just more $$$ you could have used on upgrading your existing
computer.

-WiFi sold seperately. Pay another $100. DS lite will only
be $140 and it comes with wifi built in. Microsoft sure is
greedy. Seems after you upgrade everything to what it should
be you'll have spent about $800 not including games.

-(taken from wikipedia): However there are also [xbox] games
that do not perform well in [xbox360] emulation; these often
exhibit a lower framerate on the Xbox 360. Some suffer from
bad coding, which have random quirks appear in the game.
(e.g., Imprinting of the screen on Halo 2, the constant
moving of Star Wars: Battlefront 2.)

Backwards compatability is a gamble with your old games.
Lovely.

-512 mb ram. Not bad but i have 1gig of ram in my pc.

-12x dvd rom drive no burner. I have a 16x reader/4x burner
on mine that came with the PC. Obsolete.

-3 usb ports. Maybe you wont need more than 3, but I use 3
right now and I have 2 more slots available. I also have 3
firewire ports which are way better than usb anyways.

-Made by microsoft. Get used to seeing this.

My stance on Sony is meh. Way better than microsoft but
still not that impressed, especially at what price they are
introducing it at. I'll probably pick one up when it drops
to less than $200.

You say you don't like the selection of games, and
that you don't play online...

I do like the selection of games and I wish I could
play it online. I'm just dissapointed that most of the games
for the PS2 have no online capabilities. Not to mention the
controller could have been made to be way more ergonomic but
its still clunky and wierd to hold, imo.

rather than basically
say something akin to ''people only buy the PS2 and its
games because they're sheep''

I think you missed my point. If I said that then I'd be
calling myself a sheep. I'm just saying that there is a huge
part of the market out there that ARE sheep or just have
money to burn and companies know this. Microsoft, Sony, and
Nintendo all know this. So they all use gimmicks and fancy
commercials and pre-rendered demo's to sell their shit.
Thats all i'm saying. And people fall for it. Like that demo
of Halo they've been showing on G4. Not only is it cheesy,
boring and put together kinda half assed to make it
'dramatic' but after they show it they specifically say its
not an actual game demo just a rendered movie. But the whole
time you can hear noobs in the audience cheering for it and
shit while its playing.

-Only comes with a 20 gig harddrive. 14gig of which is
useable.

Fair point, but to be honest, this is pretty negligible.
Most people (me included) that want to get music or other
media on their Xbox stream it from their PCs, it's simple
and takes no space on the Xbox hard drive at all. Few users
will actually need 20gigs.

-(taken from wikipedia): However there are also [xbox]
games
that do not perform well in [xbox360] emulation

Overstated, and I'm one that uses the backward compatibility
a lot. I haven't had a problem emulation since the first
month, other than Thief- Deadly Shadows, which has framerate
drops. It's always being updated... maybe Thief works fine
now, I dunno. All the games barring that one that I want to
play run better than ever, in 1080i with no framerate issues
at all.

-512 mb ram. Not bad but i have 1gig of ram in my
pc.

Come on, you can't compare console specs to PC specs, it
doesn't work that way. The PS2 had, what, 32MB of ram? Try
getting Metal Gear Solid 3 to run on a 333mhz CPU with 32MB
of ram. 512 for a dedicated gaming console is a LOT of ram.

You're right about the CD-ROM, USB, Blue Tooth, miscellanea
stuff, no argument there. The Xbox isn't a good option to be
an all-encompassing machine. MS markets it as such, which is
stupid of them. But the most important thing is games, we're
talking games here, the meat of the issue. Show me a game
coming out in the near future that won't run on Xbox 360.
Show me something that will render it obsolete in ''6
months''.

But don't be brainwashed... there are always
going to be tons of little ''art-house'' games that don't
get attention at shows like this.
...
If anyone's buying into the
graphics/flashiness media blitz, it's you, not Sony gamers.

You can't seem to look past the hype and realize that
there's much more to it than that, even if the media doesn't

make a big deal about it.

lol? The 'art-house' games like Colussus and Katmari are
some of my favorites. I know there's more to E3 than the
hype, but seriously thats what they are trying to do there
with everything. They sell their games with sex and fancy
graphics and of course guys will fall for it. Yeah theres
some 3rd party stuff that will be awesome and no one will
know it for quite some time. I'm not falling for anything.

I'm not buying this nintendo hype either like you think and
I'll definately wait till i try the Wii before deciding if
its something I'll want to spend money on.

Speaking of GAMES, THAT YOU PLAY, the more I read about
Assassin's Creed, the wickeder it sounds. From 1up- (this
will boost up my Thoughest Poster ranking)

------------

You play as an assassin sent in to kill with utmost
precision and agility.

What's new for E3:This is the first time we've seen
Assassin's Creed running on actual PlayStation 3 hardware.
The demo includes one large town and already features a
surprising amount of gameplay mechanics.

What we like:The second you lay your eyes on Assassin's
Creed, you will immediately say, "this is next-generation."
Not only does the game look incredible, but it's gameplay
and all that it encompasses are things that just simply
couldn't be achieved with current generation hardware--at
least not in such high quality. The demo starts with the
assassin riding his horse, which is the primary
transportation in Assassin's Creed. Once in town, you'll see
just how much effort the Prince of Persia team has put into
this game--it's about as close to a living, breathing world.
The townspeople go about their business, living their lives
and won't take much notice of you, that is, until you start
acting weird.

The cool thing about Assasin's Creed is that there isn't
really any stealth in the typical sense. You don't hide
behind crates or lurk in the shadows. Instead, you just want
to blend in with the crowd as much as possible. So, if a
group of people see you perched on one of the many planks on
the rooftop, they'll look at you in a quizzical manner and
become much more aware of your presence. Likewise, if you
run through the streets and just start shoving people
around, then there's a much greater chance that some town
guards will interfere with your plans.

Even cooler than that is how the main character interacts
with everything. If you try to run through a crowd, you'll
notice that it's not much different from playing a game of
football, where you bounce off of bodies, juke, or perform
any other sort of moves to avoid slowing your speed.
Everything feels like it has weight and momentum behind it,
and it looks and feels absolutely great.

On top of that, some of your missions will help you blend in
more with the crowd. We saw the Assassin fold his hands in
prayer and start marching with some monks, masking his
approach to the target. And since you had previously
performed a mission for the monks, they're not bothered by
your presence. But, of course, the most important thing is
actually spotting the target, and to do that it's best to
climb to the rooftops. This is where Assassin's Creed gets
even cooler. You can climb on just about any edifice that
has ledges that are two inches or larger, and the controls
for this feature are pretty intuitive with each face button
representing the assassin's individual limbs. Once you get
to the rooftops, you can use your eagle vision to single out
your target and then go in for the kill. It should also be
noted that you can avoid all of this and just run up to the
target and go in for the kill, but your chances of success
are significantly reduced, and you will be forced into
hand-to-hand combat, which also looks rather impressive.

What we dislike: While there is the usual assortment of
hiccups and bugs associated with software this early, there
really isn't anything to dislike. Plus, the development team
has eight more months to add any polish it wants.

--------------------

The climbing mechanics sound awesome.

3. new 2d castlevania

What do you mean, ''better screen''?

My most wanted Wii game is Resident Evil, even though I'm
not sure what it is yet. I'll pee if it's built on the RE4
engine. Only thing that disapointed me about the Wii is no
Smash Brothers (yet?). I wanted to see how brawler gameplay
mechanics work on that thing.

They're hanging out at Wii because there's been a dearth of
information on the system before E3, is my guess. Not to
mention, based on polls I'd say a good portion of their
fanbase are Nintendo fans.

Joystiq does like page hits, as it brings revenues. As such,
they print what they and their readers are seeking. Frankly,
I don't care about Ratchet and Clank for the PSP, but SSB:B
is breaking news, and more than worthy of the site.

Third, they're at the event, and I'd go and write on what I
was interested in if I were them. So if Wii is up their
alley, so be it. It isn't like they haven't been harsh on
the system and games, I've been glad they've been brutally
honest with their appraisals, especially when some games
(*ehem*Sports*ehem*) appear to be little more than quirky
tech demos.

Lastly, E3 is the first time the world has really gotten its
hands on a Wii-mote. I'm sucking up details like a sponge,
and glad to read everyone's views on it. There's still two
days to hit everything else.

Thanks Ophecks, keep it coming.

the "v" stands for "video" and the "lari" stands for
"glarime" which is norse for "game".

Anyway, I thought Gran Turismo was a pointless and
underwhelming, to
be honest... it was literally just GT4 in HD. I think that
was a bad omen for the Sony conference. I have no doubt
that
the final product will be awesome, but why show an enhanced
PS2 game to break the ice at a PS3 conference? I don't get
it... and I think the crowd was pretty unimpressed, too.

The game I was most disapointed to not see/hear anything
about... the new Devil May Cry.

And the price is indeed depressing. Doesn't matter much to
me though, I'll pay.

Other games I'm looking forward to- Alan Wake on Xbox 360.
I'm not even sure what kind of game it is, but it looks
like
some kind of nice moody adventure in the Silent Hill mold.
A
Resident Evil game was announced for Wii yesterday, that's
worth making a fuss over... actually, that's my most
anticipated game for Wii, not Mario or Zelda. I'm hoping
for
a souped up RE4. I'm not a big fan of the Wii-mote, but it
will shine the most for games like RE.

Here's the full-length Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer, a robust
15 minutes. This
is what next-gen gaming is all about, for me. I want gaming
to advance as an art, first and foremost, input devices are
the least of gaming's problems... games play fine, it's the
artistic aspects that need to be advanced. This game is
going to be an experience.
