Well AFX/AE/SQRPSHR dont have to work. I would be suprised
if Boc havent had jobs up until recently, unless they
inherited cash or were on the dole.

long time ago i heard that alanis morissette made a pretty
good deal with getting $1 for each sold record. so i don't
think that electronic artists earn much more money.

Well the label supports them, i.e. giving them money. This
comes off the money that the big artists make, so smaller
artists can still survive. Then when the album sells, the
get a big lump of cash.

i'm thinking boc is going to make a pretty penny with their
new album.

I know a lot of indy labels split all proceeds with the
artists 50/50 once they've recouped production costs. So
small time artists often make far more per disc sold than
big time acts.

yeah hevquip, Boards of Canada is actually pretty big here
now. There are large displays in the front windows of
several large chain record stores for Geogaddi.

Well, they deserve it, you can say. Well, if you like it.

Squarepusher moves like 100,000 copies; which is hard for
me to believe living in the states where I've never found
another person who knows his music.

I reckon aphex twin probably makes more than a group like
Westlife. I mean, who the fuck knows who westlife are out of
the uk? Whereas aphex has more worldwide broadly based
appeal. If you've got fans in america you are bound to make
a heap of money but he's EVERYWHERE....so, to a lesser
extent, be I reckon his worldwide appeal pulls in quite a
hefty amount of dough.

plus aphex makes some money when his songs are licensed for
advertisements
he also claims to have worked on some well known commercial
projects...but wont say what they are..

I don't think he makes that much. But I think he is probably
quite comfortable

i think druqks was warp's savior.

so many people are just know discovering warp through that
album.

the members of this board alone, probably give
afx/squarepusher and boc beer money.
most of us own all their major albums? don't we!

i think it is so strange whenever these topics come up...
who would be begrudge their favorite artists the means to
try to support themselves doing what they like to do...? and
Warp artists being commercial sellouts, what utter nonsense.
Drukqs and SAW2 and RDJ and EP7 and Confield and Music
Rotted and Go Plastic... these are not commercially safe
records, in the slightest...

Drukqs, on the intial release week wasn't even stocked in a
lot of chains in the USA, hardly an example of an artist
that is expected to move units. just be happy that you can
find, if you look around, some Boc and Aphex and Ae and
Squarepusher in the stores.

I wonder how much the artists off planet-mu and tigerbeat 6
make, or the smaller artists on warp. I guess it varies
from artist to artist, there's no real way to know...

I would have no idea where to find stats on sales...

Well Arovane is a pretty small artist and probably on par
with the smaller warp guys and some of the planet mu guys
and he said in an interview he was exstatic his new album
sold 2000 copies so... that guy isnt exactly eating steak
every night.
