:(

i was messing with weird sounds and frequencies last night
on my laptop using headphones and today i cant hear out of
my right ear for anything and i have a big ringing. its
scarey even though i know itll prolly go away by tomorrow
its still scarey to be threatened with losing your hearing
when you love sound so much.

makes me think of that famous deaf piano dude :) (think
hard)

Be careful man. Just don't turn your headphones up too loud.
You'll probably be alright by the next day or so. I went to
a show one time and it was so loud that when I left, I was
really scared that I had lost some hearing, but it came
back. I wear earplugs now.

my left ear is still a bit congested, probably due to my
exposure to water in the shower before i go to bed. it got
congested whenever i rested my head on the pillow on the
left side ó_ò

As I TYPE this, I'm listening to some Mega Man music on my
headphones... it is LOUD. I expect hearing problems someday.
I used to have ringing in my ears, but it's died down,
oddly... my ears seem pretty perfect now.

I'd kill myself if I went deaf, I really would.

all i know is that when you hear a ringing in your ear its
the little hair follicles in your ear that are dyeing
(popping)
and they dont grow back too fast either you realy shouldnt
be firing high mid or low frequencies in to your head for
long period of time coz your gonnah lose the best musical
critic youll ever know (and thats your ears)

I went to a Ken ishi concert and when it was over i had
reduced hearing in my right ear. It recovered a little bit,
but it's not as good as it used to be. I was shocked that
that much damage could be done in that little time (esp.
since i'm only 22). It is really annoying, because i make a
lot of music and when i'm trying to mix a track i can't
decide wether the levels on the right and left speaker are
equal.

wear earplugs.

I listen to a lot of japanese onkyo stuff: all high pitched
piercing tones (filament, iso, sachiko M, Toshimaru
Nakamura, Otomo Yoshihide even Koji Asano) and it's
devastating to ears, especially on headphones. But my
hearing is already damaged from 20 years of listening to
metal. Live fast, die young... When Im deaf Ill just kill
myself.

Jonesy: This is a revolutionary way of taking control of our
bodies back from the system who owns them and wants them
maintained "properly" in order to have us functional for its
own ends.

Don't kill yourself if you go deaf. I reckon they'll find a
cure within our lifetimes.

By "they" I mean... You know, the people that do stuff, man.

Yeah, it's "them" we rebel against, Peter.
By the way, nice Richard Pryor pic.

spare a thought for us guys with tinnitus. and make sure
you don't go the same way - its a real pain in the arse.
doesn't stop me enjoying music though.

when i saw squarepusher last year i was deaf in one ear for
4 days. wouldn't have minded if i had enjoyed it. but i
didn't

Thanks. Nice pic of... something. Whatever it is, it's
pretty funky.

Looks like a Japanese album cover, complete with obi strip.

Peter: oh, yeah it's a Merzbow album cover: Music for
bondage performance. So no Obi, but shackles.

No, they want us to destroy our faculties so that we can't
hear revolutionary speeches

And they bombard us with advertisements for crap we don't
need, in order to obscure the vision in our third eyes.

No, no, no, no: they need our bodies functioning with
perfect economy. Again something Baudrillard analysed in
"Symbolical interchange and death" (I know I sound like a
worst namedropping postmodernist wanabe, but its just that
these things are much better discussed than I ever could,
and besides there is not enough space/ time here for serious
discussions)

manchester planet k last year some time just after my red
hot car came out.

the sound system was dreadful. constant walls of white
noise. just not very good.

i had expected him to be this great performer - from reviews
i had read in the past, but it was extremely disappointing
(and i've been a fan for ages but have never managed to see
him before). as i remember the only people who enjoyed it
were the pill heads.

shame

Huh, shit. Sad to hear that. It must have been a grave
disappointment. Have you voted for him in the contest on
this MB?

Loud noises are scary... I've never been to a really loud
show or anything, and if I did, I'd probably wear ear plugs
or something... even a frickin' school dance (when I was in
those horrible grade school years) would hurt my poor,
delicate little ears.

Ringing in the ears is not a result of 'hair follicle death'
it is due to otoacoustic emissions made by hyperactive
molecular amplifiers on the outer hair cells on the organ of
Corti in the inner ear.

so whats tinnitus then?

offline Omneignotumus on 2002-03-06 16:10 [#00114224]
Points: 506 Status: Lurker

Tinnitus occurs when there is extensive damage of the inner
ear which results in constant induction of the cochlear
amplifiers.
