I got the Lektrogirl-album on WarpMart. And I think it sucked. And "music is rotted..." by Sqp also got me in a bad mood. What about you guys?

Nightmares On Wax. Les Nuits is brilliant but the album goes downhill from there. Then keeps going.

K hand - Global Warning (old but rubbish) Modus Vivendi - only track they did, not suprised. I always found AI2 a bit dull as well - no where near the first AI.

Has anyone read the interview with RDJ where he says him and Squarepusher hate the artists on the Warp roster?

Yeah, he's said that a few times recently....can't say I disagree with him as they have def gone a little downhill and maybe a little bit too slick & businessy....
but Warp still have some great artists - AE, LFO etc...and those BoredOfCanada fellows seem to be doing ok...
So I don't think things are over for Waro but it's definately the start of new period for them...especially now that one of the founding fathers has sadly passed away...
I think this years gonna be a vintage year for REPHLEX...MEN is a rephlex sub-label so, fingers crossed, we'll soon hear some more of R+T...

mostly best to stick with the old as these 'newbie' artist are definately a bit touch and go at the moment. makes you think hard before spending £14 on a random album, other places like rough trade have a bigger selection of other experimental labels and makes them a better place to go for that random purchase...

Who should be avoided? Are Plone any good?
I didn't like the Broadcast album at all.

yeah, I hated broadcast and plone. And couldn't get a clue on Jimi Tenor either. He got kicked from WARP and gotten into financial troubles because of this, so he packed his gear and came to my town a couple of weeks ago, playing literally on his own to a packed hall. Uh, I'm straying from the topic, sorry.

dunno, I heard this from a friend who talked to Jimi after this gig. I never really cared for Jimi so never put in any research... Check out Prefuse 73 if you hadn't already.

Yeah I've seen it about. What kind of stuff is it? I know it sounds dumb but from the cover it looked like more organic than electronic.

Prefuse 73 is the one who everyone claims started this glitch-hop subgenre. He's juggling with hip-hop beats and fucked up edits and digital scratching, but still adding a touch of WARP-style warmth and colour. The rappers are also being treated beyond legibility. Actually I prefer Machine Drum who has the same set of groundrules but somehow sounds more hardcore to me (but it's not on warp). I imagine there's already a thread or two on Prefuse on this MB.

I keep hearing this glitch word. Does it describe the noises? Is Pole glitch? Or Plastikman?
Please excuse my ignorance.

Pole is typical glitch artist. There was a great article on Glitch music in WIRE about 2 and a half years ago, I wish they have put it online, but they haven't... Anyway it basicly breaks down to artists who get their sounds (or compositions) from malfunctioning software/ hardware, using (to quote Kid 606) "what you see as a mistake (...) as new language". This has great social/ political theoretical potential (for people to wank about) but has also led to some fine music. The originators can never be really identified (i mean scratching is also a glitch, and using detuned instruments, too i guess) but Oval's using of damaged/ skipping CD's in early '90s is usually considered to have started it. Kid 606 has jammed screwdriver into his computer CD drive while sampling to get new sounds. ETC. But as Kid has put it: "now it's just a set of sounds on the net for people to download."

Music is rott... is one of my favourite squarepusher albums. It took a while to grow on me though. When I bought it I was expecting something more experimental electronic, I think.
Arovane - tides is an amazing album

I don't think RDJ hates the other Warp artists. He once said he was sorry for not signing BoC. And I think he likes Ae too.
