It's the unforgetable, supermarket own economy brand
Fatboyslim, Beach Boys, schoolboy rap mash up that marks the
only time the none-less-IDM-possible Andy K's ever used
samples, apparently.

aw c'mon, its not the only time i've used samples, but its
the only sample based track i've ever done. somone on this
very board posted some samples and said, make a track with
these samples.

see?

it must have taken ooh all of an hour to make?

i didnt want to go messing about distorting and
timestretching the samples to the point where you couldn't
recognise them, as in my view that would defeat the point
somewhat. a lot of non idm people have said its allright, so
i hosted it, and its the only big-beat ive ever done. i dont
get what the deal is with you guys, honestly.....

:P

The problem remains that it is comically bad: worst music in
internets

what the beat

wh-wh-what the beat

Seriously I've started saying this in real life when I hear
a startling noise or the cat jumps on me

wh-wh-what the beat

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2006-04-18 17:10 [#01882075]

Shit, that was harsh and I apologize. It is not worst music
in internets, it is just fun silly thing.

It is a zilty phenomenon. What the beat!

I have a game that I play with young Master Belch where I
cry "what what the beat" in an increadingly hysterical
fashion, whilst thrashing around. This behaviour whips him
into some form of frenzy.

I'd never heard this track till today (although I was
familiar with the saying) It took all of 4 seconds of
listening before I broke into an awkward smile.

It's not a bad track. It's just (probably because I've seen
people saying "What the beat" so much on here) that the
vocal is very amusing. The rest of the track is pretty
decent, you could get away with using it on an advert etc.

offline Dannn_ from United Kingdom on 2006-04-19 04:47 [#01882233]

theres nothing really bad about it, people have sold
millions with vocal samples that stupid. As you say all the
samples are really obvious.

Yes, "what the beat" is infinitely preferable to the hook in

I think "What the beat?" was the song Brian Wilson had in
his mind, but couldn't get down on tape, and thus went
mental.

interesting point:

tonight a friend of mine who lives up in leeds had someone
in his flat who he didnt know put their ipod on the stereo.
'what the beat' came on on random. according to the chappy
it was off a mate of a mates old computer who thought it was
old dj format, until he was 'reliably informed' that it was
infact fatboy slim.

Sounds to me like a schoolboy saying "what the beat" in an
affected accent as opposed to being "sampled" from
somewhere, but that's just me being stupid, I'm sure.

I'm not taking the piss, can I do a remix of this? As I've
said I think it's a decent track and I could do a couple of
fun reinterpretations of it. Perhaps even do a BIYC release
based on it. If you're happy for me to do this, a sample
pack mailed to cerijc[at]gmail[dotcom] would be a great aid.
Thanks.

I tried to but couldn't get a sample pack/sequencer file and
I absolutely hate remixing by editing a .wav
generated from an mp3 of the whole track.
