LOL reading this thread made me laugh swift : yea I know em :D... and it's on at 11 AM eastern time... they'll continue to be on all week seeing 'em on MTV has really oppened me up to this being a valid scource for semi-independent music to get released on a popular level, again.... flyleaf literally came out of no-where and fucking made it... and MTV really exposed them to the masses.... I, like any self-respecting musical artist, loathed MTV and the destruction it wrought upon the underground.... localized.... and "unpopular" music scenes.... but I'm starting to relize denying that it exists, and is still a hugely popular way to experience new music is NOT going to help me in any way with my music career..... so.......... 3 cheers for MTV |

yeah, it's SO incredible how MTV manages to find all these indie acts that happen to sound like all the other utterly commercial SHIT that is most marketable to their fucking demographic. three big fucking cheers for mtv for having the courage to figure this out and let the most careerist, spineless musicians in the country FINALLY have their big break! |

I like ALL kinds of music from corporate rock to classical music, and I was also raised to be a mindless slug.... people this day in age have the capacity to experience ANY type of music they enjoy.... and make up their own minds about what music should be.... and what it means to them.... if what the kids want is what MTV is serving ? good for them..... and good for MTV for SOMEone releasing music on a wide scale, wether or not it fits your particular definitions of what music is... |

totally not the issue at all. i don't care what other people listen to. but if you really think that mtv is about fostering a music community for the good of "the kids" or anyone for that matter... that's just a whole new level of naivete. it's actually impressive how ignorant you'd have to be to come up with that. |

MTV is a corporation. it does not care about whether the music they send out is good, or whether they like it themselves. they care about music that sells units. now, you might say "that's fine, that just means a lot of people want bland nu-metal" (to keep a bit on topic) which is true, but that still doesn't change the fact that they only care about the dollars. myself, when I listen to a radioshow, I want to listen to a DJ who plays music that he wants to play, that that DJ likes. certainly, there will be music I don't like, some stuff I'll hate, there will be a few tracks I think are okay, maybe there'll even be a track I really love - all said and done, at least it feels like there's some form of heart in it. maybe I'm just getting older.. grmbl.. |

soooo.... if I owned a construction company.... it should be more about the art of building a home than only caring about the dollars.... I wouldn't give a shit about the art of it as long as I got paid in the end... in the end, all I know is flyleaf has a lot of heart and LOVES to play.... it's who they are, and if it's trendy new metal.... that's great for them..... that's one step closer to making it as a business, as opposed to being just another starving musician... |
