"its still the same music as before."
Let's say your loved one had sex (willingly) with a large number of people all at once, whom you think would not even be worthy of her presence in the first place (let's say a loud jockish fratboy football team). After being completely exploited to the whims of, JUST ANYBODY, physically she is still the same as before. Yes we should share, but with whom and what we share is what matters.
"having a go at people just listening to electronic music just because its suddenly 'in' is so idiotic. it gives the impression that you only listen to it because its not cool, which is every bit as pretentious, if not more so."
It is VERY pretentious to have this mentality, but, it stems from the very logical urge to keep "our music" away from people whom would make it a commodity and prostitute it as a disposable object.

Music segregation stems from association with people who only listen to "IN" music to be cool.
That's the point. NEW AGE INDY KIDS (the music magazine followers who think EVERYTHING is amazing) and the other, MTV KIDS (low ranks of the slave colony) are so clueless that it is actually very embarrassing to have any relation to the genres they support.
The importance of music segregation to a person who the songs actually have meaning with, is the most understandable reaction anyone could expect from a music lover.
