Damn, I'd forgotten how bad it was in comparison to the
others series'.

Shit :(

it kind of went down the hill gradually, slowly and then
made a sharp almost completely vertical drop with the
introduction of Kochanski.

I love red dwarf, there are great episodes in all the
seasons. Although the first few seasons were definitely my
favorite.

Well I'm on Episode 4 now. It's not as bad as I thought.

The standard of the later series was terrible. There was
wit in the first couple of series that they replaced with
shitty toilet humour and one liners that would stop a group
of giggling stoners instantly.

I've bought up to Series VI. I would buy the later two if
one of them featured the US pilot as one of the special
features, but neither appear to. Damn shame.

Didn't season 5 have that? Or maybe it just had snippets.

One of them had a documentary about it, but apart from clips
of it, it didn't have the US pilot itself. Is The Office USA
available on DVD in the UK yet?

didnt they lose half the writing team in series 7.
plus. got rid of rimmer. added whatsherface.
got rid of live audience.
...
series 7 n 8 are terrible compared to the rest.
i guess you could say 6 isnt as good as 1. or 1 isnt as good
as 6. but it really seems once you get to 7 n 8 the show
just really starts to stink... even tho there are some
jokes... SOME

I believe Rob Grant left the series after VI... As far as I
know, Naylor was good at coming up with plotlines and Rob
Grant was good at coming up with jokes... maybe that's why
the jokes run thin and slow in the last two series.

yeah. but even the stories are no way near as smart as they
used to be.
the smartest thing i can think of would the thing with Red
dwarf crew going back in time to destroy the ship (and time
machine) in which case they couldnt go back in time so they
stay alive... and also the last episode of 8 wasnt too bad.

but still not as crazy as future echoes or white hole and
such.

I know it wasnt as good but I never thought it was a
particularly dramatic decline, there were many good episodes
with the kochanski

I don't think she was cast very well - we all pretty much
knew Kochanski as played by Claire Grogan, who looks like a
tough little nut, kind of weird and then all of a sudden
here comes this Lady.

it just didn't work very well, her whole role didn't work
very well, I think.

i finally watched thru series 7 and 8, and they werent AS
bad as id expected, altho it was spectacular. maybe i should
dig out the early series and rewatch em (3 + 4 are prolly
the best imo)
