I will now present to you, good patrons of XLTronic, some
horrible and/or great names for a musician or band to use.
It is solely up to you, the end user, to decide which
category the names belong in. Also feel free to add your own
names and/or use any of them.

FucKabob
Stewdabaker
TackelWeasel
The Perpetual Shit Machine
Darth Nader

Anything starting with "The". Way to many acts using the
definitive article.

It's funny that you have to say "the" in "the definite
article" .. you just can't get away from it.

But does anyone know what I mean? Since the The strokes and
The Hives came out, we've had five years of gormless bands
calling themselves "The" whatevers. The Artic Monkeys for
example, I knew they'd be shit even before I'd heard them.

it's like trance people calling themselves "DJ [insert

Yeah, but if they are actually a DJ....I know what you mean,
though. DJ Otzi and stuff like that. Is he even a club DJ?

I think it's gone on since Year Dot, though to be fair,
Arctic Monkeys are just Arctic Monkeys. Not that I like
Arctic Monkeys.

well.. apparently some of them really are djs, but
there seems to be some general misconception in the trance
culture that a DJ makes the music.. certain other
people who are both djs and artists only use the DJ when
they actually are djing and when they're releasing they only
use their "artist name" without the DJ prefix.. trance is
weird.

I like the way all these grime kids call themselves things
like "Ears" or "Twos" a plural name for an individual
without using the definitive article.

Yeah, I understand that we had bands called The... before
The Strokes! I'm not that young!
It just seems that these groups are using "The" again (after
nineties bands like Pulp, Nirvana, etc, stopped using it
generally) to signify "classic" rock and fit in with all the
other successful bands around now.

The Xltronics is a folkpunk band from upper dakota right by
the second gas station on your left after you leave aunties
house. Their eclectic style of music brings to mind such
bands as The WATMMS, The Hurdles, The Flicks, The Ripe
Incest Victims and The The Famous Grouses, and with such an
impressive list of references you know you just have
to see this amazing twentysix-piece live band live tonight
at The gas station!

Lush and Ride made at least one good album each! And don't
forget Slowdive. A shoegazing revival would be...well shit,
probably.

here's some real band names:

-Psycho Sluts from Mars (90s-ish girl metal band)
-Eggs (some random band i heard about, one of their members
was in SPIN)
-The Vinnie Vincent Explosion (nightmare-inducing glam-metal
band with the hit single "Boyz R Gonna Rock")
-Tourette's Syndrome (awful death metal group, featuring
songs like "Where's Jesus Now, Bitch")

and a band my friend's dad knew called "Bowel Movement,"
whose demo was entitled "Listen to this Crap." (ironically,
the music was quite good)

i reckon an indefinite name would be better, as in "an aphex
twin" or "an orb" or "a prodigy"

Ride were good, up to and including "Going blank again" IMO,
then I liked one song when they suddenly became Creation
after that. I had the first ep, oh what was it.. "Drive
Blind" was on it that ends in wah-wah frenzy. Good though.
The singer Mark's band after was alright, was it
TheAnimalHouse, something like that. Nothing to go wild
about, mind.

Then I saw Andy Bell play with Oasis last month.... the
music.. pfff, terrible really, just, a noise, bluster, a
drunkard bellowing in your ear down the pub. Shame really.

the best ones are the abstract ones. its a bit crap just
releasing your music under your normal name. you need a
shiny cool alias

i don't agree. aliases should only be used if that's a
concept. Personally i find it stupid when i learn that two
or more projects are one person in fact. This is connected
with copyright stuff and contracts, if seriously, but people
who start making music and are not signed to any big serious
label are starting to brand themselves with often stupid and
meaningless words.

Of course, it is everyones own business.

I'd like it if names were taken from some books, or films,
for example, and in such case continued the context. For
example, in some book there is a project name GNOY & SOPLY
which plays gero-techno. And some person decides to bring it
to life.

When the band is more than one person, it is of course nice
to name the group to reduce the quantity of letters.

I hate that RDJ has numerous aliases. Why the fuck? For life
not to be too easy?

copyright stuff is the only excuse for that. -> imho
