[just bought] my first synth

The Alesis Micron...and now I'm prepared to go under ground
for maybe half a century, only equipped with kleenex and
headphones...

This is such a sweet machine I can't believe it. The sheer
joy of playing with it, and the environment of the
sounds...The motions you can put it to your finger to
express the crisp and small details...I'm reborn.

The choice was when I bought it, of course, between the
MicroKORG and the Micron. I haven't played around with the
MicroKORG enough to express an opinion, but MAN I'm happy
about buying the Micron, that's for sure.

Thanks to everyone in here that pointed my attention towards
the Micron.

Yay! He made the right decision.

My first proper hardware synth was the Korg EA-1. 2 stinking
acid sequencers. Nice.

I managed to recreate Kraftwerk with the EMX and ESX, lol.

of course, in all honesty, the "right" decision was deciding
to buy a synth in the first place, so good job on that, but
also extra good job on picking out a good one for your first
one.

Congradulations!!! It feels good, doesn't it? (This has
inspired me to go out and buy a micron today)

through. I am going to buy it on thursday when I actually
have money to spend.

why not try second-hand stores or pawn shops? it's amazing
what you can do with a guitar effects processor and an old
80s synth that costs 50 bucks.

I frequently use a Yamaha PSS470(initially costing US$50
bucks) patched into a Digitech RP7 Effects Valve. (initially costing
US$187 used).

The Micron is awesome. Make sure to join the Yahoo Groups
Ion/Micron user groups... there are some shitty patches
posted, but more importantly, links to patch editors and
stuff. The patch editors will save you lots of work when
dissecting other people's patches and composing your own
complex ones.

Also, remember that instead of using the main control knob
all the time, when you've chosen the parameter you want to
control, push and hold the control knob then while holding
it down tweak one of the x, y or z knobs to assign it to
that parameter. They're smoother feeling and change the
values much faster.

Seriously, this thing rawks. It's the best analog emulation
I've ever heard. I think it kicks the asses of more
expensive Nords and Viruses. They go wee wee wee and the
Micron goes GWAAAAAAH.

Oh one more tip - a lot of the default patches have
compression or overdrive effects on them - turn it off for a
more natural, dynamic sound.

You know, I have heard there were people actually do
consider these better sounding than nords or viruses. I
didn't think they actually existed.

Though they may not be in your social circles, intelligent,
tasteful people really do exist.

The UltraGlade which can be corded or cordless...imagine the
possibility for live clothes pressing, I am hard just
thinking about it.

Once again, I rephrase what I said:

< childish voice>Don't gang up on me. He was the one looking

< sarcasm>Seriously. Whats worse than getting all worked up
over a stupid comment? Getting all sanctimoneous towards
people you think get all worked up.< /sarcasm>
