to quote the warp email of Chosen Lords...
AFX / Chosen Lords / Rephlex Sounding amazing in this sequenced order, Rephlex bring on the highlights from the Analord series. Even if you bought the vinyls this is still worth having as ordered like this everything locks into place and makes perfect sense. From track to track you get to appreciate the incredible quality and depth of the music that's come from these self imposed limitations, the strange and unusual sense of sadness that was present makes itself even clearer. This music is unlike anything Richard has ever done before but it still manages to achieve the feat of not sounding like anyone else could have made it.
Did i miss something?

I think a some of the tracks has melancholic qualities, but I wouldn't say that "strange and unusual sense of sadness" is what's typical to the anuslords, no

well, the ending of "Crying in your face" for example has something profound in it, but I wouldn't go to far with the searching/interpretations...

Yeah, some bits are a bit melancholy, but I wouldn't say sad.

i wouldnt call it sad or melancholy, some of it just really slows you down, in that state i guess you could dwell on sadness or depresison. the downer tracks make me feel like a sloth sitting around doing nothing, forever.

i think the strange and unusual sense of sadness they speak of is more symbolic than melodic. richard, for several years, was dedicated to a laptop-driven sound, and this new shift is an abandonment of what many more recent fans (the Come-to-Daddy and Windowlicker converts) have come to know him for. It is a dramatic change for him, so it's more of a nostalgic sadness, a return to his youth, rather than a tear-jerking melody.

heads up buddy, I think their is a certain sense of melancholy in much of his work. And in Analord 11, but that isn't on the album (I think)
I never get warp emails for some reason despite having signed up twice

ive always thought that this melancholic touch (that special feeling, like a warm childish sadness) in melodies ( and beats) was the real distinctive aphex style... (im having troubles with the sentence so fuck off)

Yeah. Some of the melodies in the others are slightly melancholy.
