I know you can get more expensive software than this, but
for what it does, this has got to be the most
overpriced ($799) I've seen.

Post your anti-bargains here...

You're forgetting that This is a highly specialized
audio device for brainwave entrainment audio
applications.

Naw, waves is all good. Its just usefull more for film than
music, and the effects are extremely subtle.

How about this?

I know it may sound great and all that, but $3000 for an
orchestra sample library?

Remember, you should do your mastering on the device it
is intended to be played back on
, be it hardware kiosks,
laptop speakers or mid-range audio applications such as home
hi-fis. :D

Quite how you're meant to use Maxbass on a drum and bass
soundsystem when you're mastering tracks in your bedroom, I
don't know...

no high priced symphonic libraries are pretty much the norm
for people that are seriously into it.

like a lot of film scores are composed using full orchestra
sample libraries. no synthesis. and if you consider the
options- say for something for a big hollywood film

-hire a real orchestra for the duration of the recording
process
-spend big bucks on a sample library and do it yourself....
i mean youve already scored it.

offline denniscpearce from Canada on 2006-04-04 19:02 [#01872514]

also you realize with the full sets of orchestral stuff...
each note for each instrument is individually sampled. its
not like they are just recording a few and pitching them up
or down. so i mean you have like x number of instruments,
each recorded at y number of notes, and beyond that,
possibly also different other parameters in terms of
duration or other expression stuff.... i dont think it is
that wierd that they are expensive to buy..... honestly i
am pretty sure that for 3000 you get a pretty low-end set...
in the entire scheme of things.

i can't think of where i was reading about it, but some guy
was talking about all this shit on a website... and talking
about some recent films that were all scored without a
live-orchestra.

ochrestra bull shit softwarez?

I plan on buying an orchestral sample library when I get
enough spare cash. Probably the VSL opus bundle... $1000

and yeah, think of all the time it took to multisample all
the instruments, and sections.

Then think of all the time it took to edit all of those
recordings and put them together in a way that you can sit
at a keyboard, and have it sound realistic (as realistic as
possible)

I'm taking a class on orchestral mock-ups, and its a lot of
fun using the VSL. It sounds so lush.

And yeah, considering most sample libraries are used for
film and tv etc... I say its a fair deal... a few thousand
bucks for something you'll use on almost every gig... verus
tens of thousands of dollars for ONE gig.

The musicians who were hired to play the instruments they
sampled must have felt like American programmers training
their Indian replacements during their final weeks of
employment.

that's got to be a joke... it even looks like something
you'd download for free off AOL 2.0... christ... i feel
bad for anyone who pays 800 bucks for something like that.

nah, I really doubt it. They know that these libraries are
going to be used by people who would never have had access
to a real orchestra.

most hollywood stuff is still live orchestras, and I dont
see it changing really... people still like the comfort of
having real people play... and when you're in the movie
business, you have the kind of money to go for it. I really
don't think the London Symphony Orchestra, is feeling a hit
in their gigs/pay for doing this.

Do you think Hypnos Vocoder: Brainwave Entrainment Device is
worth $800?

I couldn't say, as I haven't used it, and there are no audio
demos.

The interface isn't very pretty, but who knows, maybe its
because all of the funding went into the plugin itself.

It could be amazing, or it could be crap... don't know.

No because i have used free low frequency generators and
various brainwave devices years ago that were free.

This is a joke.
