Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

An rpg sort of thing where you play a lawyer of all people
and have to collect evidence and cross question witnesses to
prove your client's innocence? Brilliant.

It'll probably actually be quite shallow and poorly
executed, but as an idea it's really interesting. A more
adult one with realistic characters and crimes could make a
great point and click game.

im sure the most original video game ever would at least
have some gold coins to collect or something.. not something
based on real life : )
also, i still dont trust nintendo much these days : |

If there was a "counter" system you had to learn like Virtua
fighter, it'd be great:

You have to press the relevant button to the reason why
you're raising an objection. If you're too slow, or press
the wrong button, the judge won't accept it.

I saw pics of that game. Apparently it got good reviews but
it doesn't really seem like an 'awesome' game to me for some
reason. When I hear "attorney" the last word to come to my
mind is 'video game'.

I would say something like "Katamari" or "Me and my
katamari" are more original, both in concept and visually.

or "loco roco", which hasn't come out outside of Japan as of
yet.

just the art design and game mechanics look awesome, I
think.

I should probably purchase this game, sounds interesting.
Maybe I could get it for my birthday.

kagero deception and clocktower for the ps were very
original (at the time).

pretty much the first games to be made were the most
original. but i have to agree with qrter, and add titles
like no one can stop mr. domino, as well as parts of gunstar
heroes.

I fail to see the originality in either the concept or the
execution of this game.

Ecnadniarb:
Please provide me with a list of games (that westerners
might of heard of) where you play a lawyer defending someone
in court (and that's the bulk of the game, rather than just
a single scene).

The nearest game I can see to it would be some sort of
CSI/PI one where you're gathering evidence to point to a
killer, which aside from being a game working for the
prosecution, rather than defense work, they tend to be pure
facts gathering, rather than a legal battle.

Optimus Prime: I really liked Gunstar Heroes, but I think
whilst there was certainly original in places, the whole
notion of a platform shoot em up and the bulk of the game
wasn't anything conceptually new.

Weatheredstoner: When I hear "attorney" the last word to
come to my mind is 'video game'.
That's exactly how I
feel. That's why I think this is so original.

I've not played it and I don't think it'll actually be a
particularly good game, I just think it's a very original
idea for one.

Surely the most original computer game is the tennis game by
William Higinbotham?

huh? It is just a "sim" game basic on a real world day to
day profession. There are thousands upon thousands of more
original games about.

most RPGs have some quest/mission that involves something
similar. it's basic RPG funkiness, really.

Loco Roco is definitely up there somewhere, but it isn't the
most original ever.

It would be hard to single out one.. maybe the original the
incredible machine? Or covert operations? Maybe Metal Gear..
I don't know.

Great game, by the way.

I dunno. The only games that gave me experiences and
feelings that haven't yet been duplicated or improved upon
by later games are the Metal Gear and Mother series. I just
haven't played anything that feels like those. Not so much
for the gameplay, though that's great too. Shadow of the
Collossus is also pretty unique and has no real peer, but
time will tell how it holds up and how hard it is to
replicate that kind of feeling.

Ophecks, Xenogears (to the PSX) has a very special mood to
it. If you're into RPG:s, it's worth a try.

And yes, of course the MGS-series.

You tend to get original games when the technology improves
enough to allow something new.

yes, i second that game, but it's not entirely original.
Sure, there wasn't any clay-based adventure before
Neverhood, atleast not that i recall.

Imo, Captain Claw needs a mention. It's a great game, and
massively overlooked and somehow unknown. But goddamn, is it
good !

Lemmings was very original at the time, nobody could decide
whether it was a strategy, puzzle or arcade game, a nice
little simultaneous blend of them all.

I went to the video games exhibition at the science museum,
you could play them all... woohahaaaa. 3 hours went by like
that.

The early ones are pretty amazing... Spacewar which may be
the first one, is very good, quite similar to asteroids.
Quite hard.

I played the Star Wars one for a bit and blew up the death
star.

I recommend downloading the discovery channel series "I,
Videogame" (find it at piratebay or something). It's a nice
historical approach to videogames. Sure, they miss a lot and
do a few weird jumps, but it's still interesting.
