people are fed up with me around here (especially being
critical and seemingly confrontational), so i'm just going
to try to say nothing of the sort from now on

Any album that spawns 5 years of bollock knock offs, that
almost sinks an entire movement of music that I love
(electronica) under the weight of short sighted copysits, is
either genius, or mega wank. And i plump for wank.

the LFO and Clark tracks are amazing, the Plaid track is
different from their other stuff, still great stuff

not sure why warp sent me the Slices dvd, its a great
gesture, but its in PAL format :(

AMERICA.

i don't see how one of the options could be "mega wank".

i think the reason for all of those unfortunate
rammifications could only be the genius of the piece, as a
whole.

it's not richard's fault that there are people who'll jump
on the newest bandwagon that comes rolling along, or simply
drop everything and copy his style. so why hate the album,
because of its genius?! wouldn't it be rather short-sighted
to appreciate the genius of, let's say, a painting, that
spawned a whole new era of art, but hate it, because
everything else inspired by it and caught under the genre
name of this new era is, to you, fairly shit?

that is, unless you could explain to me why anyone
would be bothered imitating an album that's 100% "wank"

I just don't like the album, in my opinion. It has some
great tracks but I find it overbearing, bloated, prog IDM,
over indulgence. It's where, for me, he dropped the ball,
and has yet to pick it up again. But there's years and years
of music in him, I am sure.

fair enough. different criteria of what makes good music i
guess.

it's the over indulgence, the anal, complex beat-programming
that i love. nobody can do it quite as well as he did it on
drukqs and i think it's a marvellous work of art.

john, i'm only dancing is a great song too though. as is
modern love. my appreciation for bowie fizzles out after one
or two other songs though.

The Plaid-track is just excellent, and the rest is ok+ imo.
Have any of you heard other tracks of that warbeck guy?
