I know, he comes across like a maths lecturer who is
football hooligan at weekends.

mortsto-x , if you're refering to the Chichlizer (which I
think is the only reverse-engineered bit), they basically
took the max/MSP patches (which were autechre) and looked at
what they did and then built something that worked along the
same lines and sounded quite similar in Reaktor. I've had a
play with it and it's not very good IMO.

the first 2 patches (confield & ep7 ones) sound good, just
DL max/msp from their site (free 30 days trial or just the
free runner), load the files, press space,etc..

unfinished sounds but still pretty interestings /
enjoyements there

ever heard of "finders responsibility"? in other words: the
info is available. you just have to put in some
effort to find it

what a bunch of nonsense. teleology is about design in
nature and events as they relate to a final destination and
meaning.. not about dissecting things for their own sake.
after a while all this sophomoric Autechre pontificating
gets old. I know, I used to do it myself and now it makes
me cringe.

not about dissecting things for their own sake.

i think what he was talking about though was ppl worrying
about the influence of the music, where it came from, namely
the tools used (heinzs patch), instead of just enjoyin what
youre hearing

offline uviol from United States on 2006-03-24 12:06 [#01866796]

yes, I can see the point of that. While I think technique
is important, over-analysis can definitely kill the charm of
music, or anything. As far as Autechre goes, I think
examining the methods can be enlightening but at the end of
the day it's the final product that should speak for itself.
Of course, there's folks like John Cage and company who
seem to value understanding the techniques involved as much
as the result. It just seems that if Autechre wanted their
music to be understood in terms of the tools they used,
they'd be writing manifestos about it and including them
with the records.
