with bands you hear the place and the crowd through the mics the best thing for ae would therefor be an audiance recording at a real good place in front of the boxes. this might be the case for bands too: i have some tool recording done this way and it's ace, it was advertised on oink as an soundboard actually |

the audiance recordings ive heard were indeed lousy and way worse than the soundboards, however good audiance recordings are possible the tool recording i was talking about was done with a hearing impaired device |
